Anti-Freeze

I live in Ontario, Canada. I have a 2010 1207 tent trailer. If I drain all the water from the heater tank, pump and lines do I have to pump anti freeze into the system. I'm sure the lines would be ok.. I guess my concern would be the water pump...Would it hold up without the anti-freeze? any thoughts?

Hiya Dee and welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum. Have ya had a chance to do much camping in your new pop-up? Check out this article I found online regarding how to winterize your tent trailer

I just went to Walmart yesterday and bought my anti-freeze with lots to spare. I would not go through a northern winter without using it. I have seen too many units where people have decided to drain their systems and others who have blown out their lines, only to face a big bill for frozen lines. It only takes a couple of bucks and about an hour to do it properly. Please do the right thing.

Safe and cheep insurance. I would recommend winterizing the unit.
Trying to locate and repair a broken line is much more pain staking than taking the time to put in antifreeze.

I plan on camping throughout the winter here - I'll still fill the pipes with RV Anti-freeze whenever the TT isn't being used. When we lived in Ottawa (as of 2 months ago) we always winterized the trailer. Our last trip of the year was always at the Upper Canada Bird Sanctuary before they closed on Hallowe'en...as we cleaned up the trailer afterwards it was easy to pump-the-pink-stuff through the system. That 10 minute effort (and less than $10.00 a jug) is worth it. OurJayco's right - easier to winterize than it is to repair a line! Don't give up on Camping too early. We loved the quiet of camping in the fall!

Hi Dee, glad you did the right thing. It gets easier the more you do it.

By the way, Kingston was my old stomping grounds. Went to elementary school there, plus did my military training up in Barriefield. Will be coming to Kingston in fall of 2012 for a military reunion, will spend a few hours skulking around Old Fort Henry.

Kingston's a beautiful city - spent quite awhile there myself on the base with E-Sqn back in 89.

I go back many more years than 89. I was a soldier apprentice in the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers back in 57-59 and spent 13 years in the Cdn military before becoming a police officer.

I know I highjacked this thread and I apologize but how about a military thread, I bet there are lots of stories out there?

For now, how 'bout "Campfire Chat".... Stories of Military Experience would be a neat thread to start!

5 seconds worth of anti freeze will protect the pump.. BUT I found a better way to winterize your RV... PARK IT UNDER A PALM TREE. This will be my 3rd winter doing that..

Palm trees don't grow very well here, so the pink stuff is our only choice, regrettably.

I took a drive out to the family farm to-day and winterized my 5th wheel. It took me about 1 hour and 1 1/2 jugs of anti-freeze with enough left over to do all my traps. I loaded my cupboards with Bounce sheets and made sure all cupboards and drawers were free from any food stuffs.

The only company I had were the two farm dogs(Great Pyrenees) Sampson and Delila who decided to get into a bunch of burrs and were a real mess when I left.
