Anyone hear of a trailer being stolen?
I admit I'm OCD and lately I've been OCD about tongue locks. The only two I have found that fit Jayco trailers are these:
Robot Check
https://www.megahitchlock.com/
The second one is $200, ouch.
I'm happy with the security where I store my TT but am concerned about when I'm at campgrounds as we leave it unattended while we go fishing and other camping recreation activities. So has anyone heard of a trailer being stolen out of a campground? We usually camp at state or federal parks. The other observation is neither of these locks address the safety chains. Someone could steal the trailer using the chains while the coupler is locked. See I am OC

Never heard of one being stolen, but there is always that possibilty. I usually put my pin lock on as well as my hitch coupler lock on. Mine has the rear slide so they would have to retract that as well as the stabilizers in order to steal mine. Generally, it is usually safe at the Provincial campsites that we camp at because the park staff patrol regularly.

I would think each case may be different depending on what the state of the RV was.
A 5er with electric jacks and slides out would be much more difficult and take longer to hitch up and steal then a 5er all closed up and had a manual way to crank up the landing gear. But it probably could be done.
I've never heard of an RV being stolen out of a campground.
Some members on this forum have spent a significant amount of $$$ for devices that would make it very difficult to steal. I don't see the usage of these devices in the Minnesota area.

No personal experience or first hand stories. But, what I have heard is a stolen TT usually winds up as a meth lab or on a deer lease. Title, safety inspections, insurance... could be a problem when licensing ( but why insure something you stole). At a CG I'm more concerned with coolers, bicycles and other "portable" things. In storage I worry more about vandalism, propane tank or battery theft.

we got a $10 coupler lock. It worked so well that the key that came with it could not unlock it.
Anyone trying would raise quite a swearfest ruckus. We did. The dealer was agape when we bought the little lock.. He had never heard of a trailer theft of one of his customers rigs in Maine.

Spent the last 9 years camping around the country in a fifth. No locks or other prevention and always found her where we left her! I'll lock up the generator and the front door, but that's as far as I go.

I have never worried about our trailer and I am OCD too. I worry more about our nice beautiful home being broke in to while we are gone. Paid a lot of money for a home security setup but that doesn't keep criminals out. Only helps with catching them after the fact... Nothing of value in the trailer and insurance will replace it so no worries here.

If you were next to me, I would have cut it off for you....I have a 18 volt angle grinder with a cut off wheel. I have carried it just in case since I have lost keys once before for my generator cable lock and had to go home to get it to cut it off. I found the key shortly afterwards in the back bed of my truck where I had put it....🙄

Someone I know had their TT stolen last summer from a private campground, the kind where you leave your RV for the summer and drive back and forth from home. All we can do is make it as inconvenient to steal as possible and maybe the thief will move on to an easier mark. And have insurance.

I had to look up what OCD meant... I was thinking "Over Curious Dude" but GOOGLE says it means Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)... I can't even spell a couple of those words...
Too big of words for this old guy to worry about...

Dale,
I posted the following inexpensive coupler lock over at your other tongue lock thread ( http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f7...ock-34255.html) and should meet your needs. Has worked great on my Jayco coupler for over 10 years:

I believe that most thieves want to grab and go easily, so any deterrent works, cheap or expensive. I've found one of the most useful locks is a small cable lock which goes through the safety hole in the coupler. The same cable lock can be used on the king pin ring for the fifth wheel.
If you have purchased a firearm recently, it comes with a cable lock. They work great as a trailer lock. And yes, my firearms are also very secure.
