Astronomy Apps

When we go camping I take my IPad with me. One of my favorite hobbies is star gazing. The iPad has several astronomy apps that are great for finding your way around the night sky.
We use the iPad for keeping in touch, watching movies, listing to music, finding directions with the gps, and using the cooking apps. I know some feel that they go away in their trailer to get away from this kind of stuff but like a laptop it can be so useful.
Do you take a tablet/laptop with you camping?

Murphie,

I take my laptop with me on all my TT camping trips. It's a great diversion for those rainy days, working with photos, and general information. I found having a means to access the Internet makes planning on-the-fly while on the road a lot easier.

I don't have an iPad yet, but my neighbor has the new Kindle Fire that has some neat AP features as well.

Bob

RV app

We found an app for our iPad called AllStays. It has completely eliminated the need for the big RV books and is not affiliated with any large RV national company.

We take a computer but only use it to watch movies when the weather will not let us go outside. When we go camping it is usually so that we can recharge our personal batteries. The places we have gone have not had internet or cell service. Yes, we go to the mountains or in the canyons near here. In fact we don't usually have cell service and take a drive once a day to check for any messages. We let people know where we will be camping so that in the event of an emergency, law enforcement can be sent to let us know.

I have all the tech gear (yeah...believe it or not I have to get on JOF from wherever lol)...

But seriously...we like to get away, but I also like to have my iPad with me. Could I live without it - sure....but it comes in really handy to check things like camp schedules, make reservations, etc. We watch movies on it if it is a rainy day or I just enjoy sitting around the fire reading a magazine. I even have every manual on my camper in it so I can pull things up as needed.

Biggest thing for me is that it is MY choice. I have totally separated work and it is on another device which I don't bring. If I want to sit around the fire and catch up on email, I can do it....or NOT!

In the end it is a personal preference and it is important to have a balance in my opinion, but 30 years ago one could have said the same thing about a flush toilet in campers - but look at where we are today

Jim, I have the Allstays Camp and RV app too. It is very informative and current. It's also available on other platforms. Can't go wrong for the price. I also have a digital subscription to Trailer Life. That a deal too compared to the print issue. The downside to using an iPad is I find I'm loosing some of my other computer skills.

Smile Apps

Richard,
We are much like you. The iPad is what we travel with and in fact it is even taking the place of the GPS. But I still use the lap top when editing photographs and making home movies.
The iPad, one device that does so much.

I travel with my iPad, laptop (I almost never open) and my smart phone. My customers are in the military and seem to always need me when I'm away. My 3 year old uses my iPad when the weather is bad.

iPad & iPhones for us too. I just installed the free astronomy app on the pad and it seems pretty nice. Im now wondering what the $4.99 app does that the freebie does not?
