At Least We Had the Right Jack

We don't have our Jayco yet; we're currently towing a Forest River PUP. Last year on the way back from CO to AZ, the trailer blew a tire - shredded it royally, but fortunately didn't damage the rim. Found out then that the truck's jack and lug wrench didn't do jack with the trailer! Waited 4 hours - on the side of the freeway - for a guy to come fix it for us. (Took a while to convince the roadside assistance operator that it doesn't matter how many miles it has on it: it's a towable, not motorized.) Though this was on the shoulder of the freeway, all turned out well.

Two days ago, on the way back from a shorter, closer trip, the replacement tire failed. It wasn't anywhere near as spectacular, and by comparison was a great experience. We now have a two-ton jack (which we hope/trust will be okay for the new trailer) with a handle extension, and we have the proper lug wrench, too. The flat was on the shady side of the trailer, there was plenty of room on the shoulder (plenty of ants, too, but we avoided them), and there was no scary traffic.

Sometimes living and learning turns out pretty well.

Glad things turned out all right for you!

We carry two 4 ton bottle jacks. ($20.00 each at Harbor Freight) Use them as stability jacks under the frame just forward of the axles. We also carry several 2 x 10 x 12 boards to put under them and the front and rear stabilizer jacks.

Don't know what Jayco you are getting but I think you will be happy with it.

We liked our first Jayco, a PUP, a lot, and only traded out for a highwall when we got tired of that killer bend-over-the-sink-and-stove angle. Now that we've discovered the Murphy bed option, and are thoroughly tired (after a total of 10 years) of tucking canvas, we're going back to Jayco, and getting a 23MRB (which used to be 20MRB). It's our first TT, so there'll be a learning curve, but we're going back to our original dealer, so no worries there.
