We've got the same or similar top to abarkl (was also a Camco; don't recall model number). Think the cutting board top is a much better option. The metal covers are pretty flimsy and you can't rest anything heavy on them. The cutting board is cheaper, will take a ton of weight (not literally), and is a useful cutting board surface. Does a much better job of extending the functionality of the space.
Note that the anti-skid on the back of the board holds it in place really well. Forgot to stow it one return trip, and it was still perfectly in place when we pulled up at home.
