Avoid this road at all costs!
Okay, so on our recent trip to Yellowstone, we headed back south through the Grand Tetons and ended up in Jackson Wy. Beautiful place. You need to go there.
But our RV Camp was in Victor ID, across the mountains.
There is a road from Jackson WY to Victor ID called WY-22 or the Teton Pass Highway.
On a flat Google Map or in Apple Maps, it looks innocent enough. Oh, a nice road from one side to another! How nice that they built that for me.
In reality, it is a 10% inclined road from hell that will rip the shreds out of your transmission and burn your brakes. We got on it, not knowing any better, there was road construction so we could not turn around, and it took us close to 60 minutes to travel the 15 miles over the pass going at a blistering 20 MPH with the pedal to the metal. It literally felt like the feeling you get when you get on the rollercoaster and the first part takes you to the top of the coaster...
When we arrived at the RV camp, the manager asked how we got there, and we told her "We took 22.:" She looked at us and said "And you made it? How are your brakes? Not a lot of RVers take 22. There is a southern route that is not so steep." Now she tells us!
Only later did we find a website that stated "Not recommended for RVs."
So be warned! If you are in the Jackson WY area, avoid 22 and take the souther route which is about 30 miles south, but worth it. I promise.
