Awning Lighting
Control boxes aren't waterproof. But, it's nothing a little silicone can't fix I took my little box apart and filled the inside space with silicone and then siliconed around the 12V power connection. Why would I do this? I mounted the control box out on the awning arm inside the motor housing. The plugs for the light strip and IR hang out the side since I cut a notch for them. I ran the 12V power I needed for the control box from the control panel inside the camper. Took some fancy fishing, but I managed to do it!

Re: Awning Lighting
Looking at a new 2014 Greyhawk 31DS. The window sticker says "Awning electric with LED lights". Is that simply the outdoor lights, or could they have added some light strips to the awning, similar to what is being discussed here? No brochures or info on web by Jayco published yet. Any thoughts?

Yes it it the awning light strip mounted under the awning rail against the trailer. Some one bought a 2014 X23B and said they have the awning light strip and Jayco did away with the outside porch light.

Can I ask where you got the plug you used in the fixture to power your lights? I'd like to do something similar and that plug looks like it would make it easy. Thank you!

Most people get them off Ebay. They come with the $5 LED square panels.
Maybe search LED replacement panels for 921 bulbs.
Best regards,
Doug

They mentioned that recently while we were on the factory tour. I couldn't help but laugh quietly to myself.

I've got them on my 2014 x23b. I've posted pics you can see below.

I loved them. Lit up the area outside a lot nicer than the single porch light.

My 2014 184bh did not come with led, but after reading this I bought a set from eBay. I installed the strip on the awning and should have ordered the dc hard wire to male plug connector recommended by the seller. It would have been easier to hardware to dc. I have a pic to attach but wil have to later, appears I cannot from iPhone.

We have a new White Hawk on order. I think LED along the awning is included. It should be even sweeter if factory installed and running off 12v. Anyone know for sure?

Mine are officially dead after installing them in May. About 1/3 of them are dead and none of the colors are right. I noticed a lot of condensation in the tube the month after I installed them and some of the red were not working. When I took the trailer out this weekend the others were dead. I was thinking of buying another set and caulking the ends but I may just be throwing my money away. Anyone having better luck with theirs?

Re: Awning Lighting
Mine are doing the same thing. I can't believe how much moisture builds up when the awning is rolled up. Probably pulling them off on our next trip. I think I will try installing them under the awning channel/gutter like the do from the factory now. The guys that went that route seem to be having better luck.

Mine died after a month on my tube (see my earlier post w/pics in this thread) with the ends covered in liquid electrical tape. Since they died so soon I was able to get a replacement set from the Amazon vendor, and I mounted that set under the awning channel/gutter and have had no more problems for the past 3 months.

My set that I installed on the awning tube quit working relatively quickly last year, but I attributed it to me bending on of the cut joints. This May I installed a set on the side of the camper under the awning and they are still working great. We just returned from camping at our county fair and I ran them for 8 days straight without any issues.

Awning Lighting
I installed them on my trailer and my brothers in April this year... Both strips still working all colors. We did however seal our ends with silicone sealant. No water inside.

Are the people having issues using the waterproof version of the light strips? I have the waterproof ones and do not know how water would get in as the entire strip is a plasticky or gell filled strip with the circuitry embedded in it. There is not where for moisture to enter or collect.

I have the waterproof set attached to the awning and also have multiple failed LEDs. I cut the set to lenght and didn't silicone the ends which may have let moisture in and killed some of the lights prematurely. My lights also stick to the awning and I have to pry the set away every time I put up the awning which may have broken some of the thin wires in the tube. I'm tossing the set at the end of the season but will probably by another to mount on the side of the trailer. I'll probably save the receiver and remote as a spare since they don't seem to last long either.

Mine are the waterproof ones and are mounted to the tube. I am not sure how the moisture is getting in... Maybe I can tell when I take them off. The good thing is that the power supply and extension cable are still in great shape. Replacing the light strip only will be pretty cheap.

My set that failed were the waterproof ones. The water was getting in between the "circuit board" and the plasticy strip. Here's a picture of the set I took off.
You can see all the corrosion on everything under the "waterproof" coating. They are only rated IP65 (6=Totally protected against dust ingress & 5= Protected against low pressure water jets from any direction. Limited ingress permitted.) and made in China, so I think that, depending on the environment in the area the camper is stored in, the awning can hold more water than the strips can stand to be subjected to.
