Question Awning Screen Room?

Just need advice from anyone that has a screen room that attaches to the awning. I want to get one of these but have been told that it's not a good idea as if we get some bad weather we can now roll the awning up but won't be able to do that with a screen room attached. I figured we could just take the screen room down then roll the awning up, I'm hoping this is easy to do because I really want to get the attached screen room but don't want to risk tearing the awning. Help please

I have a screen room attached to my awning. It spends the entire summer up. I have the trailer set up on a permanent site in Maine. Have never had any problems. However, if you do have one installed make sure you see where the hardware will go that attaches to the trailer. Have seen some where the exhaust fan over the range will not open, or some of the storage compartments will not open after installation of screen room. Another concern is that some furnaces are located so their vents are within the screen room producing exhaust fumes.
I would not have a screen room unless I planned on being at one site for a long period of time. too much effort putting on, and they do add lots of weight when traveling. Not easily cleaned, takes a rather large area to clean them. I usually bring it home and do it in my paved driveway.
Good luck, hope this has been helpful, any question feel free to ask.

I agree with the last post. If set up properly they will handle a lotof wind. They are not quick to put up so unless I were staying a month or more I wouldn't want one. My personal opinion if you have a power awning I don't think they are a good idea. ( no upright poles)

Thanks guys for the helpful info......I think we've decided that it might not be such a good idea after all.

I have now had 2 screen rooms... the first one was with a manual awning and worked GREAT... left it up for 3 winters in So Cal no problems... Last summer I got a new TT with the cursed electric awning... got the screen room from Carefree... materials are way too thin... first wind busted up the room rafters NO WARRANTY.. the gear on the drive motor shattered and could not roll up the awning finally got it up only to have it unroll in the wind... guess you can tell I dont like electric awnings.. and if they refuse warranty on this one I will go with a manual one again.... My dealer sucks for warranty work... always whining.

Seann, one of our neighbors last year had his electric awning tied down and the wind bent things up. He had to replace lots of parts and some of us pitched in to help him. Now when my wife starts wanting one I remind her of the neighbors that had all the trouble. (I don't want to mess with one)

I didnt want one to start with but that is how the factory ships them... and unlike the manual ones these have holes all up the side of the RV so if you take them off you have ugly holes to contend with... My dealer is being real anal about it all...

Screen Room

We used our screen room for the first time this past weekend at Arrow Rock Mo state park. We really enjoyed the extra space. Putting it up and taking it down went quick. We had a few mild thunderstorms which had no affect on the room or the awning.

Whats the make of your screen room? Great pics and good to hear that it went up and came down quickly (was it easy to do??) We actually didn't get to go camping this past weekend because of the weather

If you have a manual awning get the Patty-O-Room its made of strong materials and you will be happy with it..

What ever you do stay away from Carefree of Colorados Add a room..

It's Carefree's new Vacation'r screen room. They have a video on their website with a demonstration putting it up and taking it down. It takes about twenty minutes going up and about fifteen minutes to take it down and fold it up. We keep an eye on the weather forecast, because I don't want to see how it does in a severe thunderstorm.
I don't know about the quality of the older screen room from Carefree, this one is well built. The skirt uses black velcro which attaches to the trailer, since our TT is white we bought white industrial strength velcro. The screen room walls do not attach to the TT. We have to pay attention to our parking spot and park on the edge of a paved pad, we also have to pay attention where park the TT on the pad to avoid concrete patios, picnic tables and fire pits when the awning is extended. There will be some spots where we can't use the room.
It was nice to have the extra space for the dogs off their tether, and providing us a shaded area reducing the amount of bugs and wind while we enjoyed the view.

My Carefree was bought last Oct... did not last one season... the Patty-O-Room was in use for 3 years before I traded up to a Jayco... I can tell you I will never buy another Carefree of Colorado product again... The crap they put the dealer through when I bought the slideout cover and now the "that is not covered under warranty of the screen room.. they have seen the last of my $$$

Seann, we bought a front cover for out 5er from CareFree of Colorado and the guy did a terrible job of installing it. I never noticed it untill the end of the season. He didn't space some of the connectors correctly and the fabric was tearing because he had to streech it so much. In my book they are a good company to stay away from.

I have the Carefree Add-A-Room limited and have been very pleased with it. Mine is older (still in excellent condition) but maybe they've changed construction, but ours is very well made and we've had it for 8 years. A couple of years ago we opted for the hard door option. We loved it! One advantage (or disadvantage depending on how you look at it) is that the hard door will anchor your awning to the ground. We just recently got a 5th and I haven't tried to even see if the screen room will fit (don't think that it will) and will likely sell it, but we loved ours especially with the hard door option!

Yours has to be the manual style then... I am talking about the ones for the power awning... they made them soooooo cheap. Still trying to decide what to do about the room...

Okay, I'm sold! Since we'll be living in our TT, and will be places 3-6 months at a time, would be great to have the extra room w/out having to worry about mosquitoes, ya know, the unofficial state bird of Texas?!? How much does one of these beauties hurt the pocketbook?

Heck no, my TT is previously owned. Fair warning though, I'm unemployed. How much are ya asking? Making a wish list now as I'll be living in my TT, and the extra room would be nice. Getting ready for when I can get back to work, where ever that may be.

George, this is a perfect opportunity for you to check out the "Parts and Accessories Wanted" forum in the classified! As you add an item to your list, add a new thread to the classifieds. Ya never know, someone might have something to sell. Posts usually stay up there for around 6 months before being deleted.

I'm sorry to hear about the unemployment that sucks. One bit of advice don't just use the internet job boards. Do it the way we all learned years ago call employers by phone and go to the companys directly some may not like it but most will know how bad you want to work by showing them. Offer to work as a sub contractor for a couple of weeks to show off your talents. I have a good friend thats a head hunter he said thats the best way to get back to work.
