Awning water problem
When we went camping last week, we experienced a gully washer downpour.
Afterwards, I discovered that a large amount of water had accumulated in between the two layers of the awning. With some effort, we removed the water.
Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to replace the awning (it's not ripped, but some of the seams are unraveled a bit)? Or can anyone think of a fix?

That's sounds like there is some separation in the fabric that allowed it to get inbetween layers.
Did you have one corner pitched downward to allow runoff, or did it settle and sit on the top of the awning?

It was pitched downward, the water apparently came in from the sides and settled in between the two vinyl layers in big pools. I thought the water was on the top, when I saw the sagging, but it wasn't.
I had to roll it up slowly, squeezing out the water. There was a lot.

How old is the awning? Is there a warranty on it yet? You may want to go that route.

It is the original, 2008, so I assume way out of warantee.

Is it possible the top layer is no longer water proof and the water seeped between the two layers?
Not sure if you can re-seal the top layer....
Just thinking out loud...

The top layer is vinyl, and it looked solid. The layers were coming apart where they had been sewed together along the edge, so that's probably where the water got in.

You can purchase clear "awning tape" and try taping over the seams (where the two layers are sewn together). Might work to get another season out of the awning, but I think you're probably looking at getting a new one in the near future.

I have some separation in my awning that fills with water whenever it rains a lot. It's only in the area that the pull-down strap has been wound in the awning when it's rolled up, so it's only a narrow strip of damaged area. I guess the friction or pressure of the strap caused the damage.
I've never really worried about it too much since it always dries out after a couple days of sunshine.

Delamination is what gets them in the end even if they are cared for properly.
I have had one that lasted forever and seen others that separate and fill up with water. It will dry out if left open.
I would start looking for a replacement fabric soon.

The threading on my awning seam is starting to fray in one place and it's a 2012. I folded a little EternaBond tape over it (in just one small section. That could not be done on the entire seam). If yours is a 2008, I'm guessing it has just about run its course and probably needs to be replaced...unfortunately.

Sounds like it may be time to consider replacing your awning's fabric.
I've know a lot of camping friends that have replaced their awning fabric themselves.
I believe most got there replacement fabric from Quality RV Awning Mart.
There's a lot of YouTube videos on how to replace an RV Awning - here's one:
