Battery compartment on/off switch
we have a new Jayco Eagle Premiere 375bhfs and need to understand when to have the battery compartment switch set to on vs. off. It seems we cannot power our lights without it being on, even though we are plugged into our home electric.
can anyone help me?

I leave mine on all the time except if it is left longer than a few days without external power.

When connected to shore power you should still have lights with the battery off/disconnected.
Locate your converter and verify that all breakers are reset. There should also be two 30 amp (green) automotive blade fuses. Make sure they are good. They could be blown and still the battery could run the lights.
It sounds like your converter is not supplying 12VDC to your system.

If the battery switch is off, then you will not have anything work that is 12V. Even when on shore power. The converter sends 12V to the battery, then the battery sends it to the fuse panel for distribution. If the battery is "Off" the 12V to the fuse panel is also off, therefore no 12V power in your trailer.

That is NOT the usual condition. Unless someone can state this particular model isolates the converter from the system via this switch your information is incorrect.
Typically a RV system can supply 12VDC from the converter OR the battery. Both are not required. But are typically both on at the same time. This switch, I am assuming, is a battery cut off switch.

My rig works the same way that tnchuck100 explained it. If the battery isolation switch is turned off, all 12VDC in the rig is dead. My understanding is that the converter charges the battery and will continue to charge the battery with this switch off and 115VAC supplied to the rig. Turning off this switch kills the 12VDC output of the battery to the rig and thus all lighting and control voltages (except the step) to everything is dead.

If the power distribution center is wired properly, it will not matter if you disconnect the battery, while on shore power, all the 12VDC items in the TT will continue working off of shore power. Of course, Jayco may have started wiring the 2015 models differently that the previous models. Don't even bother asking the dealership, they will have no clue.
I would check the 12VDC main fuse in the power distribution center that supplies 12VDC power to all the other fuses in it. Check to see if the reverse polarity fuse in the distribution center may have been blown.
I believe that the MH's are wired differently than the TT's because they have a house battery and an idolater for the starting battery.

Mine is dead with the switch off except for the landing gear. I can drop all the stabilizers with the switch off so I am assuming they are wired directly to the batteries.

Jus tested my 2015 Jayco Eagle HT fifth wheel. No lights or anything powered by 12 volts work with battery disconnected via disconnect switch. Also I have discovered that battery must be connected for clearance lights to work.

Just checked Our 2018 Jayco Jayfeather. Plugged into shore power and the Battery disconnect is off everything works in the trailer. Lights, awning, slide, fridge.

I know this is an old thread but for anyone interested EVERYTHING will work in your camper, or should, when plugged into shore power even if there is no battery present. The converter takes the power supply whether it be from shore power or generator and "converts" it to 12V to supply 12V systems and also to supply power to all outlets. In reality if you have an electrical connection, you need a battery[s] for boondocking and for towing to supply power to the breakaway switch. That's all.
