Bedroom window dangerous!

We decided it was cool outside so I opened the front window on our 04 Jayco 308FBS. I can't believe it doesn't have a crank out window! It has a lever that you pop out the window and it sticks out toward the bed! What a stupid dangerous thing, it could come loose and hit you in the head or take an eye out. The bedroom has this setup on all 3 windows, has anyone got any ideas how to install a crank out setup?

Those are your emergency exits. I do not think you can install a crank out window on them..

Three of them in one room? Wow. Maybe because ours is a recent year model, but we only have just two; one emergency window in each bedroom. The rare times we do open the emergency window, we just make sure that we push the window fully out so the lever doesn't stick out inside the tt.

Same with us - we have one emergency window - it's either open all the way or completely closed. I agree, though, it's a pain. I've already ripped a pair of shorts on the handle, even though when open the handle is only about an inch long it seems to catch on everything! It's a "safety" thing, so I won't change it - your best bet is to have the dealer install a new window with a crank, imo.

I've never had a problem with our escape window-- use it all the time. Our last trailer (a Fleetwood) didn't even have a screen on it so we could really use it (until I Velcro-ed one on).

My suggestion is to slide that red handle all the way out of the bracket and prop it just inside the window so it doesn't poke you. That or do like we do and place a small pillow over it.

I think the side window is the escape window. The one on the front of the Jayco can't be an escape window as it is not tall enough. The dealer isn't much help as the Jayco book doesn't show anything different. Our old Terry had sliding windows for escape windows. Alan

I saw a 270 lb man come thru an escape window once. When its your only way out, it is plenty big enough.

3 egress windows and a door outside , this Jayco has plenty of escape routes in the bedroom. 3 windows & front door in the rest of the trailer. I can't believe I cannot buy a crankout window to replace the front one.

our escape windows on our 184 slx have several different notches on the handle so that the window can be opened to various degrees

I just thought that I would mention that some trailers that had the emergency windows with the red handles that latched by having the handles catch the latch from underneath ( in other words the latch was facing down) have been replaced/recalled because some people have lost there window after the handle came loose and the flapping window dislodged the frame. The latest windows come where the bar goes over on top of the latch and the catch is facing up. I think it may be a free replacement but not sure.

Really? If you don't mind me asking, how did he "land"? What I mean by this is, I can't imagine an "easy" or "pain free" way to exit in a hurry. I'm thinking if something so bad has happened that I need to get out that window, compared to the door whicn is only a couple of feet away head first is about the only choice. PLus, I'll really need to hurry to get around back to help the kids exit the bunkhouse. I've showed them all how to use the window, and we have an "emergency plan" be we've never actually went out the windows.

Just to revisit this thread , two weeks ago we were driving home from NC in the rain and SOB passed me on the interstate with his emergency window "flapping" in the air stream.

I tried to catch up with him but never did.

Pays to add securing any emergency windows before hitting the road.

DW uses the emergency window in the bedroom all the time for ventilation. My biggest concern is a gust of wind would grab it and break it. So I put a clip in it so that it can’t go out and now she can use it anytime she wants. The living room emergency exit is behind the pop-up TV which is spring loaded. DW has had breast cancer with a double Mastectomy and there’s no way she can push that TV down to use the emergency exit. If there’s ever a fire and she can’t get out the door and I’m not there to push the TV down I wonder what liability Jayco has.
