Best Retirement Unit
My wife and I have debated the topic for some time and have come up with long lists of pro's and con's..
In a year or two we will be in a position to travel for probably 6 months of the year and are looking at the advantages of FW vs A class (with a small vehicle in tow). I like the FW layouts and of course love the truck (2500 or 3500)..my wife likes the idea of the A class.
There are probably as many opinions as there are models but just looking for thoughts and things that maybe we haven't considered..

110% yes.
With the class A you also get a vehicle that does one thing, it pushes your house around and you gotta tow (or rent) a second vehicle in case you want to go out for Mexican food or run out of adult beverages.
Our TV is a bit of a beast but the Bride loves to drive it.
That said, it'd be nice to arrive at the CG with the living area already cooled (we don't have a genny).

We had the same conversation at our house.
Stayed with a 5er and pick up. More versatile, less overall cost...(purchase price, insurance, maintenance) etc. I'd rather have two power trains and an rv than three. Besides I heard that ladies love a Pick Up man. And I love my pick up.

In my state the personal property tax on my 4 year old trailer is almost 2x of my stick house. Can't imagine what it would be on a MH!

I have owned both class A and travel trailers, no fifth wheels but I know we could live for quite a while full timing in our 338rets and with the crew cab we have plenty of room for us and dogs to travel in comfort. I sold my last class A because with the time we were using it I was concerned about the drive train sitting so much and in my opinion much more livable space with the full size slides compared to the slides in a motorhome

We just purchased a 36FBTS it has the front bath with a double sink,full size shower, washer dryer and closet all together and we plan on full timing it one day soon and found this model to be the best fit. We als looked at the class A and it is no comparison to the Fiver. If you don't mind having a big truck to scoot around town then go for the fifth wheel. We also went with a Chevy 3500 long bed dually, my opinion is anything less of a truck and you will be over loaded if you full time. Good luck.

We've been kicking around the same decision to upgrade. So far we have settled on a 5er as the best option. Property taxes and insurance cost is exponentially higher for a RV. For the same $ you get more square footage in a 5er. We also like the 36FBTS but my concerns are how difficult will it be to manage such a long trailer?? I had planned on pulling it with my GMC 3500 Duramax SRW. The numbers for weights work but does anyone have experience that tells me the SRW will be a problem?

You will be fine. It's not that big of a trailer.
