Had a transaction recently for a truck - $7200 was the agreed upon price. Guy shows up to "take another look at it" and they says will you take this, as he hands me an envelope. I open it in front of him and it is full of cash. He says it is $7200. I say - yep, good enough for me.

I walk over to a bench to count the cash....while I'm counting I don't notice that he walks off to talk to his buddy near the truck. When I see this happened, well, I just knew I was screwed as I continued to count.

At the end of the count, it is $1000 short! Oh crap.....

He comes over, looks as my little piles of $1000 and says..."Crap - I'll be back..." He leaves the money with me while he goes and gets the other $1000.

Who know who screwed up - it it all worked out OK

aint nothing wrong accepting a friend of a friends third party check as a payment, right? Just kidding. I would do the transaction at your local bank to verify the cash is good and also they will be on camera the entire time during the transaction so that's added comfort.

Ask them for a cashiers check from a major bank, then finish the transaction at one of the local branches of that bank. Call the branch ahead of time and they will make a conference room available for you and verify the cashiers check.
