Black Tank Flush on Utility Center

For those of you that have a dedicated black tank flush inlet on your Utility Center I have a question for you....

Do you drag out a separate hose when you use it or just use the hose from the city water inlet?

I have been debating this with a few folks I know and was wondering what others might do. There is a check valve in the plumbing lines to prevent back flow (at least according to the manual). I would even go as far as use a back flow preventer on the end of the hose as a second preventive measure to ensure nothing flows back.

Anyways was wondering what others thought.

Thanks

I have a separate hose for anything related to the waste tanks (flush/sprayer or garden hose connection to my sewer outlet. There may be a back flow valve, but I just can't bring myself to connect my fresh water hose to anything attached to the black tank...

I don't drink the water in the fresh tank and I still use a separate hose. I don't always follow directions but in the owners manual there is a warning that a separate hose is to be used to avoid possible sickness and even death or something like that. I even have separate plastic containers for each hose.

Check valves are subject to failure like anything else. I don't have the system you mentioned but I will never use my fresh water hose for any waste related task ...

I use separate hoses and separate containers to store them. Each hose is color coded for its specific use.

I. Always use separate hoses for fresh water and tank flush water. Sometimes, the only water available at a dump station is reclaimed water, and I never want that going through any fresh water hose, or into the fresh water tank for any reason whatsoever.

I have a short length of hose I connect to the black tank flush, then I use a back flow preventer and attach my fresh water hose.

We didn't have a black flush in our old camper. As long as we are buying all this new stuff for the new camper, we bought a new FW hose and retired the old (formally with spray paint) to being on flush duty. Like it was mentioned, some dump sites don't have potable water. While you don't have to flush the tank every time, if you wanted to use the flush and you didn't have a separate hose you are kind of stuck.

Our little camper doesn't have a built-in black tank flush so we use a Rhino Blaster that has a rinser attached to the clear 45 degree elbow. It has a vacuum breaker to prevent back flow but we carry a couple of cheap 15 foot green hoses that are only used for tank dumping/cleaning. Those are the only ones I will use for that purpose.

I don't disagree with what anyone else posted, but I'm always confronted with the fact that both hoses will be connected to the same source.....

Not always. At a full hookup site with sewer then yes but when they don't have sewer and you have to go to a dump station, I have been to many that say the water isn't potable. They may just say that because they don't put a backflow prevention device or for liability reasons but I wouldn't want to guess at how things are plumbed once in the ground.

We have a hose dedicated for black tank flush only.

Last year we were camping at a full hookup site and watched our neighbors pack up to leave. After dumping the tanks they disconnected the fresh hose from their trailer and proceeded to shove it into the 3 inch dump pipe, then shoved it down into their sewer hose. Then packed it all away nice and neat.

I about puked thinking about how sick you can get from that! Now I keep bleach with me and "sanitize" every fresh water faucet at every park we go to before I connect our hose.

I use separate hose for anything black tank related and also store that hose separated from from my fresh water hose in a different storage bin.

Very good point about the water at the dump station. I do have a dedicated hose i use at those locations. I was thinking more about using the fresh water hose while staying at a full hookup site for a week or several days.

Thanks to everyone for all the insight.

Fresh water hose is just that. Fresh water only. Separate hose for anything to do with the sewer water... For sanitary purposes... I am not drinking toilet water...

This is how we do it also.

Seem every dump station I have been to, has a flush hose marked "not potable water".

I don't use the dump flush anyways. But, if I did, and I had to use my own hose, I would drag out my green colored grey water hose that I connect to a hose fitting cap on the dump valve when boondocking.

My white hose is for drinking water only.
