Question Black Tank Flush Winterize?

I winterized my camper last week and as usual, just now remembered something I forgot to do.

For those of you that have a black tank flush, are you also winterizing that system?

I guess I need to buy a hand pump or something that will let me push antifreeze into that connection.

Oh, and I forgot to do the city water connection with the check valve on the outside too..

I was just going to blow it out, but now you have me thinking. How would you know the antifreeze was sufficient? Heck, how will I know if the water is blown out by the air?

Well, on the city water side, apparently all you have to do is manually push in the check valve with your thumb and the pink stuff that's already in your winterized lines will start coming out, so that one is easy.

With the tank flush, I guess you just have to wing it and pump in a little more than you think you need. I have to make a trip to the storage lot anyway and it looks like I won't need to re install my battery or anything for these final 2 items. Since it gets below zero here I'm not taking any chances.

I didn't even think about the city water connection until I saw this video.. he does it towards the end -

My tank flush does not hold water. There is a check valve in it that allows any water in the line to drain out the hose when it is disconnected.

disclaimer: It never freezes here any how.

If it was very close to empty, even if there was a small amount of fluid in it, if it froze it would never expand to do any damage...

I just push a bit of compressed air through it with the threaded fitting. I can hear the residual water in the line splash into the tank once the air pressure hits. Empties it right out.

I blow the tank flush out with the compressor, then pump a little antifreeze in to be safe.

If you have an outdoor sink, or shower, did you get those winterized also?

Figure better safe than sorry.

Yes, definitely covered those. I'm probably going to pick up an inexpensive hand pump and hit the black flush connection with it the more I think about it. As I understand it, the black flush is basically a 'sprinkler system' inside the black tank, and I've learned the hard way what happens when I don't 'winterize' my sprinklers here at home. It may not be an issue, thanks to gravity, but I can already visualize me stressing out about it in Feb, instead of enjoying my Irish coffee in front of the fireplace.

I just need another excuse to go put her to bed (again) for the season anyway. I almost get separation anxiety when I haven't seen my camper in more than a week. This winter is going to suck.

Peace of mind is priceless and a shot of anti freeze in there won't hurt anything.
