Bottle Jack recommenations -- will any do?

Looking to add a bottle jack in the TT tool kit.

I've looked at WalMart, Tractor Supply and even Amazon. Will any of these do??

Looking at a 6 or 8 ton with a good bit of travel. A case is a must.

I would say any will do ... I would consider short one if your planning on using it under axle with a flat tire ... I had a 12 ton that was only about 6 inches high and then would use blocks under it if I needed more height

You can also find good deals on bottle jacks at Harbor Freight. I don't know of any that come with a case. You could use the box though as a guide and make a case out of plywood. I did that years ago, but now just put a bungie around the jack to hold the handle/s.

I have a 6 ton bottle jack, I forget the brand, but I also have a 6 ton floor jack. I know that might be overkill, but if I need to change a tire on the side of the road I want to make it as easy as possible.

Where did you find your 6 ton floor jack and how much was it?

I have the 6T bottle jack from Walmart and it's worked well so far. Have to put blocks under it to ensure it has enough throw to lift from the frame, but IMO that's not a big deal.

I have this 12 ton Torin double ram, I like that it has a lot of lift. Seems very well built.

Couple things to consider. When you have a flat can you get the jack under the frame. Remember don't lift the axle directly. For capacity, look at the total weight of your tt, and buy one that can lift that amount, or more.

It is buried in the basement so I don't remember the brand, but it was normally $300, but I snatched it on a weekend only sale for $200. This was 6 years ago and I don't even remember where I got it. It was Northern Tool or Harbor Freight. I know it is a cheaper model, but for occasional use it does work well and it has an aluminum frame so it isn't as heavy as some of the commercial quality units.

I have a 4T bottle jack. It is small and light. I jack at the wheel under the suspension U-bolt. It works well and is all I need. The weight on one wheel is under a ton so I think anything more than a 4T is overkill. I got it at Princess Auto on sale for about $10 IIRC.

Bottle jacks don't have a very big base. So go short and block it. they are to easy to tip if extended all the way, don't ask me how I know.

I bought a Big Red bottle jack, 12 ton I think is the capacity. I use blocks to get the jack just up to the frame. It worked well. I also have a 2 ton bottle jack, but it struggled even under a single axle so I opted for more capacity.

For me I have decided if I am on the side of the road I want a floor jack to get it under the thing and jacked up as quick as I can... I bought a 3 ton racing jack from harbor freight that's aluminum frame. I have a 20 volt dewalt 1/2 inch impact with 400 ft pounds of torque and impact socket on it for the lugnuts ... for me less time on the side of the road means less chance of getting plowed by a car or semi and that's worth a lot to me

I purchased a 12-ton 2-stage Torin Jack from Amazon and it failed! I was using it on a light truck and it collapsed! Good thing I was using jack stands. I returned it with a bad review. I ended up getting a new/other FORD 6-ton 2-stage from Ebay. It came with a mount bracket and handle kit. MUCH better quality!

I have a 6t bottlejack from Harbor Freight. It fits (standing up) in a Homer toolbox from Home Depot, along with some 2x8's to use as blocking. I think there is 4 or 5 2x8's the length of both of the two seen on top, with a 45* cut at one end in the long ones to drive the good tire up on.



Threw a reflective vest that work handed out this last safety kick off in there and also have a paint suit (not seen, keeps jack in place) to wear on if needed.

I have these led safety puck light flares for the just in case. Bought mine at Autozone on sale for $15, worth it Imo. Also carry a collapsible cone with an led light in it that work gave us.
