The P3 (not a Prodigy to clarify) has a few more bells and whistles such as system diagnostics. I believe the Prodigy P2 has more possible mounting angles. They both will do the job well

Prodigy P2

Reverse battery protection for both vehicle and breakaway
Designed to work with electronic over hydraulic brake systems
Numerous mounting options - including 360 degree vertical rotation
Digital display depicts voltage delivery to trailer during braking
No level adjustment necessary - it adjusts itself to varying terrain as you drive
Great for backing into tough spots! Works proportionally in reverse with the ability to disable when not needed
Produces stops that are in proportion to vehicles deceleration rate
"Boost" feature gives users the ability to apply more initial trailer braking power when towing heavier trailers
Continual diagnostics check for proper connection, shorted magnet conditions and much more
Quick and easy disconnect feature allows user to remove and store the control when not in use
Electric trailer brake control for up to 4 braking axles
Limited lifetime warranty

P3

1-4 axle trailers
Distinct, easy to see LCD display with multiple color and contrast options
User can customize to choose English, French or Spanish display
Allows the user to switch between Electric and Hydraulic brakes
Highly advanced, easy-to-understand, roadside diagnostics
Easy access, "Up-Front' controls
The original "Boost" feature allows for different levels of customized braking
Compact, dash-hugging design
Unique, easy-to-use, clip-mounting systems
Quick disconnect for easy storage; convenient storage pouch included
Limited lifetime warranty

Looks like Tekonsha products are dominating, but the integrated truck controllers will probably be the future for these devices as indicated in the voting. One question for you integrated controller owners, is the controller standard, standard with the tow package on the truck, or is it an entirely separate option?

@Crabman - It was included in the towing package on my truck, it wasn't a stand alone option.

Thanks, that`s how I was thinking it would be. So in time, add on brake controllers may be a thing of the past, except for the older trucks.

I use a Activator II. It cost $50 brand new. The digital readout lets me preset to my favorite levels before heading out. I have no idea if it's a good controller since it's the only one I've ever used. The trailer stops fine with it, so I guess that's a good thing.

On 2011 F150, the OEM controller is not included with the regular tow package. It's an additional option.

Wow, I made my first tow with the P3 today bringing home my new Z19. That last X19 we had, I had a Voyager controller. What a difference in the two, HUGE. Stopping was so much smoother. With the boost, I could not even tell there was a trailer braking behind me. I love my new P3.

Wise man.

I can't understand why they still sell time based brake controllers. They are not safe.

They are cheap, for a reason.

Standard with Max Tow

Love the fact the brake control came standard with the max tow on my F150 Ecoboost. So simple and works like a charm.

Just switched to the P2 and couldn't be happier. Previously I had a timed controller which did its job for the random times I towed something but it was never a smooth experience. Now that we have the TT I felt it was time for something more serious. Just towed home this weekend from a trip down a mountain that has around a 10% grade for 9 or 10 miles and it felt totally safe.

I own a P3 but don't have a trailer that can use it yet. I was expecting the 2006 1206 PUP I just bought to have electric brakes but when I arrived to pick it up I was suprised to find it has hydraulics that have not been maintained. I'm now weighing swapping for electrics or overhauling the hydraulic brakes.

Definitely would use one of the digital Tekonsha controllers.

Using a Tekonsha P3 on my LR3 - It came pre-wired and connectorized for the brake controller and the trailer connector. Just had to add the Ford pigtail for the controller and the trailer wiring kit for the back.

just installed the P3 on my gigantor 2007 tundra... it's the first brake controller i've used since the early 80s, one thing i can say.......they've come a long way with these things...

i chose the P3, as i'd heard good things about it, and thought the more intuitive display was a nice feature.... not sure how any of the other brands compare, but this one seems to do the job well.

with the harness, the install took all of 5 minutes.

still not sure if i've given it the proper setup, but fine tuning is easy.
