calling all 28dsbh whitehawk owners...

Hey folks, we are really close to putting a deposit down on a 28dsbh whitehawk but are concerned with functionality when the slide is in. we have only owned non-slide campers so this is a first for us and there isnt one on the lot for us to go through. we have been through a ton of campers and know the 28dsbh is the right layout for us, just concerned with functionality with the slide in for quick stops at lunch time and stuff like that. i know it will be out primarily but still a concern.

Hi there Waltah, Welcome!
Not certain what experience others on this forum have had, but our dealer told us not to put any weight on the slide while it wasn't extended. While performing the PDI, we were told that it might damage the slide mechanism if we stepped on the slide or sat in the dinette while it was retracted. If I was misinformed by the dealer and other members were told differently by their dealer, please let me know. We love our Whitehawk 28DSBH.

I had this same Whitehawk TT last year. I don't remember our dealer telling us to not put any weight on the slide if not extended. I would recommend asking your dealer to see if that is a problem.

Regarding access it is wasn't too bad. It was a little tight but we could get thru to get access to the fridge or anything else like the bathroom or dinette. I attached a picture with the slide in. This was taken after the trailer was delivered to our dealer.

Ditto here about not stepping on the slide while its retracted.

Full access to the bathroom thru the rear door tho and I found it easier to get to the kitchen area from there too.

If you're going to stop for lunch, just extend the slide. Takes 30 seconds.

while i have you folks in here, what are some things you like/dislike about your 28dsbh? we are coming from a 1997 no slide 29ft forest river so it will be quite the upgrade. just curious to hear what you folks think.

Only had it for a year but can't find a thing we don't like. Too much to list for likes, but can say it's perfect for our family of 4. Nice big bunks, deep slide adds a lot of room. We spent a rainy weekend in it, no problem. We could've easily went home as it was only an hour away!

Oh, I guess the flimsy fender covers they put on would be a negative. One came loose while traveling down the highway, so I took it right off and threw it in the truck. Dealer replaced it under warranty.

X2 on the flimsy fender cover, one of ours came loose too. I fixed it myself since my dealer is close to an hour and a half away from me. We also cant find anything that we don't like about our Whitehawk. The faucet in the bathroom is a little too small to wash your hands well, but that is mod that you can take of pretty quickly yourself. We like the layout and as dmward said the inside is really roomy with the slide extended.

We also have a 28dsbh and it is very functional but I wish I would have stayed with the sturdier jayflight line. Our whitehawk is currently at the dealer getting the front repainted from premature paint fade. At least it's all under warranty.

Actually, my big "mod" last year was to replace the faucet in the bathroom. The one they ship with just makes a mess!

funny enough, the lav sink faucet was updated to a larger stainless one in the 2016's.

We put our deposit down on ours today! Crazy excited!

We have a 2012 28dsbh and is our first camper. We bought it used and have had it about 18 months and love it. Sometimes you have regrets when spending this kind of money but not this time. Many short trips under our belt so far and our big trip this summer is to the beach with family, 13 hours away. We have made a few minor upgrades (digital thermostat, bath fan, etc) but I really scored points with a stainless sink and faucet in the kitchen. Other than that, we hook up, go and enjoy.

Dislikes? Really only one-- my wife uses the left side in the bedroom and has the smaller closet. Wish it was bigger. Most everything else is a "like."

Do not remeber the dealer saying anything about not using the slideout when it was retracted. We have used the slideout when retracted and had no issues. It is a great unit. Could use lights in the cupboards.

We love our 28DSBH!!! Travelled 8400 kms last summer and plan to do 10,000 kms this summer. It tows great, has plenty of room for a family of 4 and the kids love their own big bunks. The only thing I plan on changing is the bathroom faucet. I purchased a new one and when our TT gets out of storage that is the first thing I'm doing.
My wife comments all the time that it was the best purchase for our family and the trailer is perfect

love it

My family of 4 LOVE the Whigtehawk so much they named it Jake. It is the perfect camper for us. We've gone to many camper shows and I researched the heck out of it and, for the value and usability, you can't find a better fit for a family. The cons would be the same as other people have already mentioned. The bathroom faucet (which I've already replaced,) the small bedside table on one side, and not being able to open the windows in the front bedroom(which they changed on the 2015.) Good luck

Our front windows open in our 2014. One of them is actually an emergency exit window.

We have the frameless ones - wonder if that's the difference?

Nope, mine is a 2014 with frames and I can open one window (drivers side) while on the other side is a smaller vertical one that is fixed.
