Camp Ground Guide

Hello, someone is selling Woodall's 2015 Official Campground Guide for $6 locally. Is it a good guide? Are there better guides out there? I can't even find the exact one online. I think it may be a AAA thing and we are not AAA members.

I had Woodall's several years ago and it was lousy!!! Maybe they have improved it since then. It sure had lots of room for improvement.
Allstays is hard to beat!!!

Save your $$; look at the publishing details - the AAA Woodalls and Good Sam are the same.

I guess the count is now 3x on Allstays. It will link to park reviews too. Was about $10 as I recall and is a perpetual license.
Very useful!

Woodalls is part of the Good Sam companies now. Nothing to do with AAA. AAA has limited and very poor RV park guides. Woodalls used to be very good but they are mediocre now.

Also use RV Park Reviews - Trusted Reviews of Campgrounds & RV Parks.

Minor correction from a California AAA member based on May2015 office visit. AAA stopped creating their own (free) books and now sell regional booklets as produced by Woodall. However, they still provide as free their campground maps of state parks - at least for California.

I have all stays as well. The app is clunky, but it has an enormous amount of information--which is why it is so clunky. Most of the information is right in the app and no data connection is needed. You can't always rely on a data connection.

You highlighted one of my annoyances with AAA. Separate state clubs, and a national club, none of which have the same rules, plans, and benefits. The state clubs are separate from the national club even though there is a central 800#, and the national club does not play nice with the state clubs. So what books are offered in CA may not be the same from other state clubs.

I haven't checked AAA WI in a while. I am not renewing my membership.

I like the Good Sam Directory for North America (USA and Canada). But I only buy one about every 5 years. Typically, campgrounds don't move! LOL! They list by state and city, so it makes it easy when trying to find a place to stay in a pinch. But it comes in really handy when planning a vacation itinerary. A quick phone call will tell me if they are still in business.

They give you directions from major highways, rate the campground in 3 categories (cleanliness/completeness/friendliness), list the amenities, number of sites, campsite surfaces (grass/gravel/paved), costs, and major nearby attractions. They also provide phone numbers and web addresses of every campground.

I find it very useful - especially when I'm in an area with little or no cell phone access, which makes my smartphone pretty dumb.

Not correct. Woodalls and AAA have worked together for several years now.. See the attached. New Woodall’s/AAA Official Campground Guides Offer Members Expanded Campground Information

I know this is true, because I've received a free copy of this for the past few years. I believe this is a national AAA publication and should be available through any local AAA state organization.

All that said, I prefer Allstays App, but I do have the Woodall's/AAA book as well. It is free for AAA members (which I know the OP said he was not a member of).

Goodsam's ... It's FREE
I also usually just google the area and go from there.

I would like to try allstays but it's $12 per app and I use both an android phone and iPad during travel.. So possibly would have to buy twice. Additionally I just read some reviews about this app and it indicates not so good for Canadians and some people complained that it was out of date (dump stations closed).
Still if the price were closer to the $3 mark, then I would try it.
