CAMP NC in July

We want to go to the Blue Ridge in July. Are there good places that have full hook ups? We want to be away from the crowds. Is it possible to find a decent place that has hook ups but is not over-run with people. Access to Asheville would be nice, but if Asheville access means mucho people, then it is not a must. Thank You!

We just spent 2 nights at Mama Gertie's Campground about 10 miles east of Ashville. We used it as a base to visit the Biltmore House, drive on the BlueRidge Parkway, and visit many other interesting sites around that area.

You can read my review on RV Park Reviews, at the moment it's the first on the list:

Thanks, guys! It looks like Cross Creek has gone up a bit since the video was shot. Both of these places look neat. We will look into them.

Yes that was a older video and they added a whole new section of full hookup sites a few years back.

I guess it depends on what you consider crowds to be and what type of CG you are looking for. We primarily stay in State or Federal CGs. The Blue Ridge is our playground and 3 come to mind:

New River State Park - NO crowds at all, 1-1/2 north of Asheville, small CG on top of hill with GREAT views

Lake Powhatan Recreation Area - just outside of Asheville so there are people but the CG has very private sites with full hookups in the Lakeside Loop

Devils Fork State Park, SC - 1 hour south of Asheville in a remote area on the southern slope of the Blue Ridge - waterfalls everywhere

Great job! We really appreciate your help! They all look good. We will keep digging. Are we correct to think we will get a bit of relief from the Alabama heat? It looks like the "normal" July temps are 8-10 degrees cooler. We are wondering if there is a little less humidity as well.

We live in Charlotte, and the Asheville area is typically 5-8 degrees cooler during the summer. humidity might be slightly less as well. But, you still are in the South albeit not as far south as Alabama.
The Blue Ridge is a fabulous area to camp, so much to see and do. We've been going for many years (several times a year) and haven't begun to scratched the surface.

We'll take what we can get. We know it is still hot. Maybe we can convince ourselves that a Big Sky breeze is wafting through the pines.

If you want to go a bit further north, our family recently has fallen in love with the Grandfather Mt area. We found a beautiful full hook up campground there. It is close to Boone and there are quiet a bit of tourists there, but here is a lot to see and do in that area. We went kayaking and there are a lot of waterfalls and hiking trails there also.
