CB radio
Hello and Happy Thanksgiving to all! I just got a CB radio for my TV and wonder if there are any channels that RVers use. Any infor would be helpful. Thanks! John 2012 Silverado and anbd Jayco 1/2 ton 5 er

Years ago, I heard some RV'ers used Channel 14. I made an 800 mile trip 3 years ago and never heard anyone nor did they hear me on 14. Don't think they are as popular as they once were except if you are convoying with someone else....then they are invaluable. By the way, welcome to Jayco Owners Forum. I usually monitor 19 as well. However, if you have children in the truck with you, I recommend keeping the volume to a minimum. Some of the truckers language can make a sailor blush!

I was big time involved in the CB craze back in the 70's, but haven't had one in over 30 years. Two weeks ago I spent a week working for a pilot car service delivering extra long poles. We used the CB to communicate between the two pilot cars and the truck driver. We had 5 trucks and 10 pilot cars running in a group so the CB worked well.
I was surprised that I didn't hear a single "Good Buddy" or "Don't ya Know" all week. I guess those phrases pooped out years ago, but I did hear some interesting language. That part of CB hasn't changed at all.

I too have a CB for monitoring the truckers going down the roads. They all still know what is going on.... I just listen mostly. Squelch turned all the way up so that all I hear is right directly in front of me or right behind me.
Cellphones have ruined it all now for CBs. When traveling with two cars on the road it was always neat to have the CB to keep in touch going down the road. Now we just use the cellphones in speaker mode.
Back in the 60s this was the radio mode of choice. Then it went to FRS radios... Mine is always on when the key comes on in the truck but I very seldom hear another RV'er on it. Same goes with my Ham Radio. I even have my HAM callsign on the tags and 146.52 contact frequency labeled on the rear of the trailer. Very seldom make contacts with this radio as well.
Changing of times I reckon.

I used to be a member of the Washington DC area REACT club back in the 70s, complete with whip antenna on the back and base station, etc. Cell phones have made CBs completely obsolete now, I think, except maybe for OTR truckers. Times they are a'changin . . . .

I had a home base station and one in the car in the 70s. Will always remember some black guy running a heater down in I think New Orleans, calling "Baltimore, Baltimore, Baltimore," over and over all weekend long. He was entertaining without being obscene like so many.
But a couple years ago en route to Phoenix in DW's SUV I bought one at a Radio Shack in Gallup and thought it must not work, because I didn't her a single call on Ch. 19 out there on the 40 with tons of OTRers. Returned it on the way back.
Now DW and I caravan using 2-ways. They're easier than the iPhones.

This thread brings back fond memories of my childhood. My neighborhood best friend's dad had a base station in his garage and a huge tower antenna next to the house. We sat and listened to the chatter for hours. My brother and I would also sit in our dad's Cutlass Supreme and monitor channels on the unit he installed in the car. Seems kinda silly given today's technology, but that was cool stuff back then.

Still have a Antron99 dissambled up I'm my attic alond with a few powersupplies and a some smaller CBs. Use to run some Cobras, Galaxys and Mirages back years ago but noiw easier just to use the ole cell or FRS 2-ways. Now that I have small kids, no way I would want them to hear what's on the CB
