changing a tire

Sort of a duplicate of another question I asked, but I may get a more/different responses. If you changed a tire on your TT, where did you Jack it up at on the TT?

I have two axles, so I can drive (or back) the good tire on a side onto a stack of Lego blocks and raise the bad tire enough.

Alternatively, I have put a jack at the end of an axle to raise the end of that axle just enough to get a wheel off. I know that Dexter says not to do this, but for me it has worked out without a problem.

If I have to raise the whole trailer for some reason (not just the end of an axle) I jack up under the frame.

a bottle jack placed under the trailer frame and as close as possible to an axle will jack up one side of the trailer.

In searching for an answer, I found a pic in another forum(not a jayco TT). It showed a bottle jack placed on the frame between the two tires. It does look like it would work. I just don't want to bend the frame!

When I pulled my wheels to re-pack the bearings last I used a floor jack on the axel. The frame is a bit light weight (my model) for me to feel comfortable wrenching around under there.

Often when there is a need to change a tire, the trailer is not on firm ground and is not level; you are alongside a road on dirt which is cambered for drainage. If the ground is soft, you need large strong blocks under the jack. The trailer being on slanted ground is a safety issue. I believe the safest alternative in this situation is to drive one tire up on blocks to raise the flat tire off the ground.

On the road my first choice is GSRS. 2nd is pull the good wheel up on a ramp of 3-4, 2x8 boards. Then put a 3 ton bottle under the axle, right on the spring U bolt and jack it a few inches to let the flat clear enough to put a full spare on. (Break the lugs nuts first).

When home I use 2 Jack stands and bottle jacks. Always chock all wheels not being worked on and I even hitch up for more stability.

I had a life changing accident 10 years ago from a jacking accident. You can't be to careful.

I have a rv ramp that I bought from a RV repair shop. Owner highly recommended it. Just place in front of the good wheel, pull it up on the ramp just enough to lift the flat tire after cracking loose the lug nut. Beat going under the trailer to place a bottle jack.
