Cleaning Awning

Read somewhere to mix Dawn and bleach to clean your awning. Then you roll up awning for an hour, then unroll it and hose it off. Is bleach and Dawn the right formula? Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks.

Everybody has a different approach on what cleaner to use. As for the other part, wet the awning top and bottom, spray down with your choice of cleaner, roll up, wait 15 minutes, roll it back out, hose off. If you do it often, no scrub brush or pressure washing necessary. I've used Dawn, bleach and water, purple power degreaser, and a number of other things. Kind of opens a can of worms when you mention what you use, so I won't go there. It's not recommended, but what I use, I've done it for 14 years with no bad effects.

I've tried all kinds of chemicals but a Mr Clean Magic Eraser clamped in a mop head works the best for me. I don't really scrub the awning just wipe it while it is wet and rinse off. Awning still looks new after 6 years.

I do mine a couple times a year...dish soap, bleach and water. Wet it down good with a brush, roll it up, wait 1/2 hour or so, open and run the brush over it to clean. Rinse well and dry. Comes out quite clean with little effort.

How much bleach, soap and water do you use?

LCI Solera who makes the pwr awning on my 23RB recommends using 1/4 cup of dish soap mixed in 5 gallon of water. This mix is liberally slopped on the top. Then the awning is rolled up for 5 minutes, which puts the soap on the underside. Awning is rolled back out, and rinsed by a water hose. Repeat if necessary.

Wait until dry before closing the awning for good.

LCI Solera doesn't mention a particular brand of dish soap.
