Cleaning the A/C filter
I've noticed that the main A/C register is dirty. I haven't yet opened it to pull filter out. How does everyone clean theirs? I clean the one on my vacuum cleaner but hosing it off and letting it air-dry.

* While camping - take the filter outside and smack it against a tree to break off the loose particles, then wash with soap and water.
* At home - blow the filter with compressed air, then wash with soap and water.
I try to clean the filter while camping once a week since we usually use the A/C quite often. Its amazing how quickly the filter gets dirty.

I cleaned ours just prior to our last outing which lasted only 4 nights. I noticed after just a couple of days there was already visible "stuff" collecting. I'd say it needs cleaning at least every week of use. Dish soap and Water and a little gentle scrubbing. I expect it to need replacing every couple of years or so.

I clean ours using a method similar to Nylyon's. Keeps the AC from freezing up.

I vacuum my filters if I have electric and replace them every few months. I just cut a universal foam filter down to size.

I bought some foam filter material and cut 4 spares. I just replace it, clean the old one as described here and keep it for the next time.

I agree with Norty. Walmart sells AC filters for around $1. You can make 3 or 4 RV size filters from one sheet.
It is easier and more effective to use a new one every time than wasting the water, time and energy to clean the old one.
