CO2/Gas detector

The detector in our trailer is very sensitive and I'm not complaining. My wife was using hairspray in the bathroom and it set the alarm off. I was putting OFF! with Deet on and it went off. Any body else experience this?

Yes, we just have to learn to avoid setting it off. The dog or grandson however don't realize that flatulence will set it off also!

Oh My!

That's just incredible! Like I said, I think it's great that it's that sensitive.

Our gas detector (Carbon Monoxide) would randomly go off for no reason, no gas appliance running at all. I'm not real confident that these detectors are accurate to begin with. I disconnected ours, blew it out with compressed air, replaced the crimped wire connectors with simple wire nuts, haven't had anymore nuisance alarms.

Something to consider if your rig is several years old, these detectors usually have a certain life span and often have a "replace by date" stamped on the back. I believe five years is typical. I like the idea of gently blowing dust out of them but use caution doing so. Since the device is there for a really good reason - to protect lives, perhaps it's a good idea to replace the component within the manufactures recommendation.

A few months ago after arriving very late to our RV park space, the detector kept going off. It was pretty cool out but I opened doors and window for a time, just to be safe. Turned off the propane and all other sources of ignition, again to be on the safe side. The $@!&* thing kept going off every half hour. Around 3AM got the screw driver out and wire cutters and took care of the problem. Next morning got on Amazon and had a new detector in two days. Kept the propane off each night until the new unit was installed. Sleeping well now.

Good luck.

I think these suckers are all programmed to fail or reach old age at 3:00am.

Back in May I finally figured out what was setting my CO detector off anytime the windows were closed. The smell of some critter decomposing somewhere in my underbelly. I suspect a chipmunk, but not sure. I finally had to turn the propane off completely, cut the CO detector loose and waited for about a week. When the odor finally went away I connected the detector again and no problems since. Methane from the decomposition was the culprit I'm sure.

I have had to replace several over the years. Most don't make it for 5 years.

I have one in my home that has been working normally for 10+ years.

I agree that most don't last as they claim. When they start going off at 3:00am for no reason, I don't hesitate to replace it.

Mine seem to be lasting exactly a year and a half. When I talked to Safe T Alert they said that the more exposure the sensors get the shorter their life. Mine is located on the back of our dinette just inside the entry door so it gets all of the smoke from the fire pit / grill, etc. And I agree 100% that they decide to fail at 3:00am.
