Crossing into Canada at Waterton Lakes NP

Will be crossing from Montana (at Glacier National Park) into Canada on Hwy 17 going to Waterton Lakes National Park. Anybody gone through this crossing and if so, how was it?

I've crossed it several times in a car, it's a typical mountainride, very windy (not the blowing kind) and has ups and downs but shouldn't be a problem. It's beautiful ride and I recommend it. Waterton itself is a jewel in the Rocky Mountains, we make a point of visiting at least once a year, Logan Pass is another must see but you can only go so far with a trailer because of the narrow road and hairpin turns!

Easy crossing. Nothing noteworthy. Like all border crossings, make sure you don't have any "artifacts" in your vehicle, i.e. rocks, sticks, etc. Didn't realize the boys each a stick in the back from a hike earlier in our trip. I was forced to leave a U.S. stick in Canada.

Thanks for all the good advice. Especially about the contraband "sticks"

Look'em in the eye!

When you meet the customs officer take off your sunglasses for a starter. Lol
No guns of course, a couple bottle of wine or 12 beer, and be friendly and of course honest.
We go back and forth often because we have family in Canada and the process has been smooth and easy.
Enjoy your high value dollar while you are there!!👍

Yea, I did that the first time I crossed into Canada in Maine but left the diesel engine running. The officer got a little irritated and said, "can you turn that thing off?"
Strangly enough, I've had no problems going into Canada but usually feel like a, non-tax-paying outsider when coming back into the USA. Our officers can be, lets just say, less than welcoming.

So true. Canada welcomes visitors with a smile, and the USA reluctantly lets you back in.

X2 - we crossed from Niagara Falls (US side) to Sarnia last Sunday and had more "trouble" getting back into the States. The Canadian agent was a little grumpy, but it was also 4:30 in the morning so I don't blame him. The U.S. agent asked all kinds of very vague questions, and then got surly when he didn't get the specific answer he wanted. BTW, even if food came out of the U.S. Earlier that morning, you can't necessarily bring it back into the country - we left a dozen eggs in a trash can at the crossing.
