They were willing to order but it would have been an 8-10 week wait which means I still would be waiting for it instead of having gone on several weekend trips with it like we have.
Also, getting it end of September here is useless as we already have nights below freezing and it snows here as early as October. So if I would have waited for the order, it would just sit in storage until next summer anyway.

Sorry, I should have clarified. Distances are one way.

I bought used and drove around 300kms/200miles to get my trailer which was the right price, right model, and in great shape.
Living in Canada, I know a pile of people who have bought new in the USA driving hundreds of miles for their purchase in order to save thousands of $$$.

Bought from the only Jayco dealer in the area, a family owned business about 75 miles from home.

I drove about 60 miles for our purchase. Shopped around online first and printed out best offer, including RV Direct. Then went to local dealers to see who would get closest to lowest price. I have stayed with the same dealer for three purchases now(60 miles away) and they have been great. Latest warranty work on new unit, in and out in less than an hour. Of course it was also a one hour drive there and a one hour drive back.

This was our situation as well.
I wanted to work with, (at that time), our local Jayco dealer. But they didn't have the model we wanted. I even called them to see if they could get it for us and willing to pay more to buy local. But the dealer said they were not going to get that model. They also no longer carry Jayco. So we drove 3 hours away to Cincy to pick it up.

Five hour drive but with a catch. We were tent camping and stopped to look at this one the way home. Made the deal. Unfortunately I didn't have any money on me (bank closed). Had to go home and get it and drove back 2 days later to take delivery. Small family owned outfit in the middle of nowhere. Yadkinville NC closest town. Lots of used clean stuff and prices made the drive worth it. I intend to deal with them again when the time comes.

Long Distance Purchase
Bought my trailer online and picked it up 2 miles from the factory. From Dallas to Middleburg Indiana 1075 miles each way. The wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the the trip and the weather was unusually cool for the second week in July. Saved at least $2000 and got some options that were not available locally, plus got a 2015 model. We camped at the KOA in Middleburg two nights and made sure everything worked before we left for home. Beautiful country and worth the visit.

Traveled out of state and stayed overnight to pickup our new Jayco 2014 FeatherLight with the fold out beds at either end of the trailer (16XRB). My wife scoured the internet looking for a 2014 model and was about to give up when she found Keystone RV, located on the border of PA and MD. Saved about $2000 over buying a 2015 from the local dealer. However the local dealer has an excellent service department, so all my warranty and repair work is done there. Overall the best of both worlds.

We bought our slightly used 29RSTS from a campground owner less than 2 miles from home. He even towed it to our home as part of the deal, as we didn't have a 5er hitch installed on our truck at that time. Great deal, great trailer, never a regret.

I traveled about 150 miles to purchase our RV. The closest one, 25 miles, was to pricey and the one 150 miles away came within about $2,000 of RV Direct's price so I figured that traveling about 1,500 miles each way was not worth the $2,000 difference. Turned out ok for us.

I traveled about 12 miles to get ours.. I kept hounding them until they gave it to me for the price I wanted lol.. I also wanted to be close in case of warranty work if needed, I waited until the 2015 came out and got a what I think is a deal on a 2014..

We had the title for the old trailer with us and when we saw the floorplan we just traded instead of waiting until we were closer to home.

My story: I went to my local dealer and told him what I wanted. Half ton towable, as big and nice as it could be. Cross coach seating, night stands with 12v outlets, smooth siding, curved roof, oversize entry door, etc. He said immediately "You want a Eagle Super Lite 266 RKS. I can't keep one on the lot, don't have one to show you, sorry." We traveled to the next closest dealer where we got to see one. Yep, that's what we wanted. This one was way overpriced. There were three 200 miles away, and one 125 miles away. I let the salesmen have a bidding war and then bought the one 125 miles away. 7K less than the one I looked at with more options. Worth the trip to say the least. My local dealer has done the warranty work, no questions asked.

Purchased local - but through Costco
Used Costco, better savings there than the "sales" offered at the local dealer ~ and without having to haggle (did better than a friend who went that route). Quick, simple, easy way to go. Also, dealer has been VERY cooperative after shakedown trips to resolve small issues.

Shopped local, but didn't like the attitude of the 'salesmen' we talked to. Seemed to be if we weren't looking for a high dollar class A or 5th wheel, then they didn't want to be bothered... yet they followed us around as we showed ourselves the various units.
At a different, somewhat local, location we did find a salesman that was very attentive, listened, and helpful... yet he never followed up on calling us back on a dealer stock unit he said was on its way and would be at the dealership in two days.
Our search distance increased... We found a unit about 50 miles from the Jayco factory that was in dealer stock (and had been for several months) that had all of the important options we wanted. However, their price was about $2,000 higher than ordering a new unit that had EXACTLY what we wanted with the option of picking it up in the spring about 3 miles from the Jayco factory.
So, this spring, we will be picking up our new, made-to-order, trailer about 1,800 miles from our home; then bringing it back to AZ... another 1,800 miles.

Just ordered the X17Z from the local dealer located about 30 miles away. Great dealer, nice sales team and excellent reputation; Southern RV in Richmond Virginia. Cannot wait until we take delivery in March.
