I live where we have two seasons (spring & winter) but wouldn't think of going south. Just had another 5* of the white stuff this morning and expecting temperatures to go -7 by the weekend. I guess I just like living where nature is abundant and people are scarce.

Sorry about the snow. It's going to get cold (ha ha) here in Quartzsite for the next several days. Hi's in the 50's, lo's mid 30's. Just like the nice Autumn days in Kansas.

In 1998 I retired from the phone company in Chicago and headed south. We live at the north end of the tropics, around central Florida, can't head to much farther south from here. Tried to get into the state CG's in the Keys during January, no dice. Filled with snow-birds. Did get a spot for a week near Naples Fl in January. Better than nothing.... We follow the snow-birds NORTH for the summer (Blue Ridge Mts) June-October, after 2 weeks in Nashville TN, for the country music program in the beginning of June.

That's totally acceptable coming from someone on Michigan's UP. I love it up there, but only after fly season until the first frost - which isn't a lot of time. Some years ago I remember one of the towns on the west side had received more lake-effect snow than usual, and recorded more than 400 inches for the year. That's a reason to go south for me.

Okay, here's a choice. You can go to Grant Village CG in Yellowstone NP:http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick...A#.Up6L08go4y4, or go south.

I hear you. Born and raised in Green Bay.

Got some land in Mercer, WI. For sale and now you need a snowmobile to get to it.

Lots of snow and cold temps in North Idaho. Glad I'm not there.

I have a great reason to go south. I HATE winter. Actually, I really don't hate winter, I just don't like to be cold. I'd much rather "take it off", than "pile it on", clothes that is. We're trying to get into a resort south of Tampa for about 6 weeks in Jan/Feb. OF course, we were there in 2010, the second coldest winter ever in Florida. Sometimes it seems we just can't get away from it. We'll see.

That sums it up for me too. We stayed in the St Pete area for a week before going further south. We're near Ft Myers now and it's sunny and 80's, but we don't like the area as well as west of Tampa. It's not a gulf vacation for us, we came to scout out southwest FL, and we still have a lot to learn. I'm told by some experienced FL snowbirds that you have to go as far south as Ft Myers if you want warm all year long. Of course that means "hot" in the summer.

Now, if you all want to pitch-in and buy us a place on Sanibel Island, we will accept it and be thankful.
P.S. We would like it with a private pier and a boat house.

Edit: We were thinking about including housekeeping services as well, but that might be asking for to much.

After 38 years of working outside in temps that ranged from +105 to -40 I make sure I leave every fall before that 4 letter S word arrives.. This is my 6th winter in SoCal .. and as Max Smart would say "and loving it"
