Do you rely on the auto switch over tank
Just curious to know if many of you are keeping their propane tank, both opened to take advantage of the auto switch over device , or if you are like me using one tank at the time keeping one closed.

I've always opened both and let the regulator do it's thing, worked since 1977.

First time it's 35 degrees outside and at 2 am the furnace won't come on because you ran out of propane, you will wish you used the auto switch. No reason not to use it, just check your tank every week or so to see if it has switched. After a while you will know how long your tank will last before switching over.

Why on earth would you NOT use the auto-switch if you have it? All you have to do is look at your tanks every few days to see if you've switched over, and then pull the empty tank to get it filled. No loss of gas in the middle of the night. No worries. Love it. Especially now as the night time temps go down and the furnace is running more, which increases gas usage.

Well I understand that can be a real good thing to do . Here is the last week end story...I had a tank becoming empty last week end, so a friend of mine seeing me removing the tank and opening the second one manually asked me why I wasnt using the auto changeover device ..well I had no other answer then......dont know. So today I decided to open both tank and to put to work the change over valve. In the meantime I decided to check all my line for leaks before winter................ To my surprise I had a very small leak at a hose fitting just before the regulator....guess what...I imagine myself at 2 am relying on the switch over to maintain a constant supply of propane only to see the second tank empty because of the leak :-) so I revert to my previous and full proof method...one tank at the time...but now that I have fixed the leak .....I weighing the pro and cons.....lol

Well, we should be checking for leaks anyway. Not sure it's a reason not to use your auto switchover. I'll keep using mine.

LOL I fully understand, but it was giving me an argument in front of the campfire at the end of the day to continue to do the changeover myself
and thank God the campfire was far enough from the small unknown leak LOL
