Dogs! Need a Vacuum!
My new fifth doesn't have a central vacuum system (but hopefully the next one will?) so I brought a "stick" vacuum with me to Vegas (I saw they were sitting in some of the other brand's models I looked at when shopping and thought it was a good idea). But I have two big, very hairy, Chessie's with me and while the stick does OK on the hard floors it's not working out for the carpetIng (ok, I might be a little OCD). So, has anyone found a small lightweight vacuum suitable for rv'ing that has reallystrong suction? Thanks in advance if you can save me hours of reading reviews online and still not getting what I want!

We have a Shark NV44 from Walmart. Inexpensive and it sucks in a good way!

I have Dirt Devil ( hand held )
It works pretty good, come with some attachments
suck up the dog hair, that I care about.
I have only used it about 3 times, I need to be running the generator or hooked up to power.

It's a bit pricey (~$400), but we have a Dyson 59 animal. The thing is amazing! Light weight, wall mounted storage/charging unit, multiple heads, and it picks up everything.

We travel with a yellow lab and a jack, the lab leaves tumble weed type deposits every day. I tried to mcgiver a system up with an inexpensive small capacity canister vacuum without a beater bar and a binford 5000 hose. We only have carpet on the slides and bedroom. It would take an hour to clean properly and it was hard as h to get the hair out of the carpet so we had to use a rubber flip flop to ball it up and then vacuum. After that we decided that our Dyson canister vacuum with the beater bar will travel with us in the future. It doesn't have to be a Dyson but I think the beater bar is a must.

We bought and installed the dirt devil central vac. Pretty easy install. We just mounted it under the bed for easy access to change bags, and ran the powercord up to the jack at my nightstand.

We bought a Hoover Nano from Walmart to keep our Labs hair in check. Does a really nice job and takes up very little room.

How well does the central vac work on carpet? I've been thinking of installing one same as you, under the bed, but primary purpose would be for dog hair and that's tough to get out of carpet, esp without a beater bar.

I had a stick vac when I started out, but (like you) found it didn't do a very good job on the carpeting. I bought a Shark Rocket at Walmart for around $160.00. It's a hand-held with a wand that detaches for compact storage in one of the dinette benches. Comes with a dusting brush, upholstery brush, crevice tool (to get the dog hair out from between the sofa cushions), and a very nice floor head with motorized beater-brush. Two speeds: one for hard floors & throw rugs, and one for carpet. Love that it is a corded model, so I don't have to keep it plugged in to keep it charged. The 15' cord allows me to reach the entire trailer when it's plugged into the bathroom outlet in the center of my rig.
Gets a thumbs up from me!

Thanks for all the feedback! I tried to buy everything I thought I could possibly need or want (that I didn't already have) before I left Montana (no sales tax!) but somehow still have a bag full of Nevada receipts. There's a Walmart close by that's getting to know me.

We have an Australian Shepard who sheds like crazy. During her shedding season we literally have to vacuum at least once a day, sometimes more. We have one a Shark Navagator that we leave in the camper to vacuum. I have to say I am very impressed with it. The one we have has a dial where you can control how hard it sucks and we have to turn the suction down because it is so powerful. I have never experienced a vacuum that is too powerful until we got this one. It is light weight, easy to use, easy to store under our couch, and has a lot of features.
This is the one we have Shark Navigator Lift-Away Vacuum, NV352 - Walmart.com

Another Costco plug... they have the Dyson DC59 Moorhead Plus Digital Slim on sale through the end of this month for $379 (shipping and handling included). I've seen them in the store for $369 also.

I think this might be the one Jayco (and others) are now offering as an option on the higher end trailers.

We have the same vac. It's lightweight-12lbs, powerful and has multiple attachments and features. Great for carpet, bare floors, ceilings, blinds etc.

Ok, I'll fess up. After reading all your comments on the Shark (and truly needing one for the trailer we just placed on order), I decided to go with the Shark Professional Lift-Away for $159. Brought that baby home and gave it a trial run here in the house. I'm impressed... that little sucker really sucks! It came with a bunch of attachments and at $40 off the regular price, I couldn't resist. DW even took it for a test run around the house and she was impressed.
Thanks for the tip.
