drain water heater or not

Where we live in California we have no chance of the water lines freezing in our tt. Add to that we will be using the tt through the winter off and on. That being said, is there any benefit to draining the water heater. Seems to me there is not but would like others opinions.........happy camping!

IMHO, it would seem that if you use lots of hot water, keeping a good replacement flow through the tank, and have a good filter, you would not need to drain unless there is a problem. However, if you don't use that much HW, even with no possible freezing, it could become stagnant, for lack of a better word, and possible odors occur. In that case, personally I would drain and refill maybe once every month or two. JMHO

If I know I'll be 2+ months between trips I'll drain my hot water tank.

Good advice especially with well water, I found out the hard way. Left mine for about two months, forgot to drain it and when we used it again the hot water smelled awful and the DW let me know about it.

An Atwood rep told us they recommend draining periodically to help flush mineral deposits out of the tank. He said this would extend tank life.

X2 with Sailor. Draining the tank when ever storing for more than a month allows me to check the anode and flush out any calcium.
