Local Walmart's quit giving pre-employment drug screening, they couldn't find enough employees. Now they drug test if the think there is an issue. Probably came down from corporate and is now nation wide practice. Ask your local manager.

Just as big an issue is younger people showing up. As a retired guy I enjoy keeping busy. For the last three holiday seasons I took a job at a Big Box outlet. As a seasonal employee I was getting 40 hours (much more than I wanted) while the full timers were, in most cases, getting less than I was. I asked why to my boss and he said you show up.. the others, obviously all younger than I am, they typically missed at least one day a week. As I told them the bar today is so low, all you need to do to be a super start is to show up. And this is a company starting employees at $13 a hour, and you can easily move up to $21 an hour part time. People don't want to work, even on sundays when you make time and a half. From those I have spoken to this is in every industry today, getting employees is an issue and then getting an employee to show up is another issue. Any wonder companies go over seas where people actually show up to work.

I'll state let's keep this thread clean and then post that most of the country would tell us the solution is to legalize.

If it's a problem make it legal? I won't comment further

And people wonder why they have issues with new RVs. I saw it coming as the articles poured out about record sales, increased production, and the lack of employees. Couldn't give me a rig built right now. I follow the fine details of the industry and order or buy at strategic times. Now isn't the time if you want a less than problematic rig.

When able-bodied people can sit flat on their asses and get monthly checks from the federal government, those with no work ethic lose the desire to put in an honest day's work.
Put an end to the ridiculous welfare state, and most of these problems would disappear overnight.

Heck I've been out of work since March after 20 years offshore, and I still stay working my tail off at odd jobs. Just my mentality and the way I was raised. Not all think that way.

This isn't a pot issue. Opiate abuse is epidemic in our country at the moment. It starts with pain killers like oxi, Percocet, Vicodin, etc -- then they get to expensive and hard to get so the easiest and cheapest alternative is heroin.
This also isn't a manufacturing issue, social class issue or regional issue -- it's everywhere and scary.

A number of years ago Keystone had to let an entire shift go for selling/using drugs on the assembly floor.. the joke at the time was "Keystoners"

This post can go wrong in so many ways too fast... But, I have a hard time believing build quality issues with RVs are drug related. I believe we have more issues based on no industry standards and the speed at which these RVs are manufactured.

You are, of course, correct. The main issue with the RV industry is consumers want everything to cost a little as possible, but then expect it to be perfect. When it is not, they look for someone (besides themselves) to blame it on.

As a nearly life-long advocate of the Libertarian Agenda, I feel that legalizing, standardizing purity and strength and taxing "Recreational Intoxicants" is a good thing.
Get the stuff out in the open. Take the mystery away. Remove another income stream from Organized Crime.
Redefine what a "Bar" is. Alcohol, marihuana, opiates, synthetics yet to be created... Sold by licensed business owners that want you to see you come back.
But that does not change the fact that SOBER, WAKEFUL and CARING people are needed to make things and provide services.
We need employers to have a rational policy about intoxicant usage. Show up for work unable to work - suspension. Too many times? terminate employment. What defines "unable to work" is unique to each employer.
Building things on a factory floor - very high standard. Sliding groceries past a scanner - not as high.
Pre-employment drug screening has gotten out of hand. The testers are charging too much. The process is way too complicated.
'nuf rant.

Sorry but after 25 years in LE I have seen the down side to use. I believe no matter how inexpensive; users will commit crimes to obtain the product of their choice, marijuana, booze, synthetic. Look at alcoholics, they'll use cough syrup, mouth wash, vanilla, and a lot more. Unless it's given out free like food stamps there will be crimes to get it. CO has had one of the legal dealers robbed recently. Wonder why when they can walk in and buy it? The saddest part for me is I retired from WA one of the states that has legalized marijuana. A sad day in my opinion. I'm also smart enough to know the marijuana does have medical use, just as cocaine and many other opiates in use daily. The difference? Medical use not recreation. Recreations what everyone here does as often as they can, go camping, not sitting home stoned. JMHO

What could possibly go wrong with more intoxicants available, I mean, look how well it has worked with alcohol. And we wonder why the country is in the mess it is.. Colorado has been a disaster, ask anyone not involved with the industry. Thank God I'm the age I am, but my kids and grandkids will have to try and pick up the pieces on this mess we call a country.
