Extended Warranty

Friend of mine is looking for companies that provide extended warranties for his motor home. He knows of Good Sam. What are some of the others? Good or bad experience?

Thanks

Our Greyhawk came with Warranty Forever RV coverage through our dealer. Did not need to purchase a separate one.

No extended warranty here as 2 years is sufficient.

I have one and I just used it. Repair was 1400. When we bought our RV the warranty was on sale. Paid $1500. And i have 7 years total of warraty. One more repair and will have paid for it self. The company is FCPP. On our last trailer we bought it and it cover when the converter blew, when the furnace went. One of the side wall had to be repaired. One of the bunk end almost broke off. the way I look at it it cost me about $20 a month over 7 years for piece of mind. I have never had a repair turned down and not get authorized.

Until an extended warranty covers leaks and water damage I am not not interested. Maybe if I had a power train on my RV, but with a towable I can afford to take the risk.

Tell him to save his money. 3rd party extended warranty's are not worth the paper they are written on. Take the money he would spend on the warranty and put it in the bank to cover unexpected costs down the road.. he will be money ahead.

We purchased the Route66 extended warranty through our dealer when we bought new in 2011. Cost was around $2000 if I remember correctly. First two years were covered under Jayco warranty and our MH seemed to be in the shop more than out. Last couple of years, more issues and they have been covered by the extended warranty. Last year was the awning motor, slide out motor and controller and some smaller issues. All covered and paid for by extended warranty. The slide out invoice alone was $1600. MH back in the shop today and the same slide out will not budge. Extended warranty has paid for itself already and we still have a couple more years of coverage.

It is a personal decision and how much risk you are willing to take.

We also have a Route66 extended warranty purchased through our dealer.
Have not had a need to use it yet since our unit is still under the Jayco 2 year warranty.
Purchased it for piece of mind and because of the amount of electrical components on the unit.

Agree with donellen30 - "It is a personal decision"

Good luck.

Does the extended warranty need to be purchased immediately after the purchase or anytime before the manufacturer warranty is out?

We were offered one thru our dealer. Can't remember which but we had either 60 or 90 days to accept it.
We declined.

Thanks. I will research a little bit in relation to the scope (what is included / excluded) and when I would need to buy the warranty. I might be interested on such coverage.

I could buy the extended warranty (backed by the manufacturer, not a third party) on my car up until I had the original warranty valid. I could then shop around to find a dealer with the cheapest offer.

How often do you have to take your trailer in for a service/inspection to keep it valid?

Have one through the dealer as well, not sure which one though. With all the electronics for the slides, the residential fridge, the TVs, I also think it is worth the investment. Our dealer actually has a CC that he can use to pay for repairs if we can't find a service provider who accepts the warranty. We had to have the air-cond replaced under JAYCO's warranty while on the road in Jan (Florida) and that bill was $1,300. When we had the SENECA the ext warranty paid out $1,200 for a new radiator. So they do come in handy.

If your dealer sells you the right plan you can also get partial refunds when you sell or trade. We got a $675 refund for the one on the SENECA when we bought the PINNACLE.
