extended warranty..read the fine print

While waiting around our dealers service area for our tt the dw and I overheard a service rep on the phone explaining to a customer that their extended warranty required them to pay a 200 dollar deductible each time they used it. The customer had purchased the warranty at the time they bought their rv and the rep was saying he was sure it was explained at the time of purchase. Apparently the customer was not aware of it and was not very happy about it. Don't know all the details, but as with any contract, read the fine print. happy camping!

Yes, definitely read the warranty and don't go by what the dealer says. There is no way to judge the value of the warranty unless you read it and understand what it will/will not cover and what you are responsible to pay if a covered item needs repair/replacement.

Any product warranty should be read/reviewed...., but all third party extended warranty should be read with extreme caution because the fine print will get you every time. Also, some sales folks may "imply" that purchasing an extended warranty at time of RV purchase makes it the same as the original OEM warranty coverage.., have yet to see one that is.

My take on these warranties is that by purchasing one I've already been out a couple thou in repairs on a car, trailer, boat I haven't left the dealership with yet. Also, by not buying them on a dozen cars and trucks and a handful of boats, quads, etc., I'm ahead tens of thousands of dollars. I have never had a major problem but twice that I recall, and that was a transmission in an SUV and an engine in an Oldsmobile, both replaced in the original warranty.

Disclaimer: I always buy them for vacuums because they all seem junk these days.
