Exterior wall thickness

Putting in my TV in the rear bedroom where Jayco says there's 1/2" plywood. I want to quadruple check the exterior wall thickness. I believe it is 1 1/2" what does everyone else think?

Just an estimate with a tape measure at the door. I think you are correct at 1.5 in.

<sigh> I was disappointed today. Went to put in the TV bracket and the screw went in WAY too easy meaning nothing behind where I needed it to be, so it will be on to plan 2, get 1/2" oak plywood, stain it and cover the wall, then install the bracket on the plywood. Ever wish you were there when they made your RV?

Jayco marks where they have reinforced for a TV mount with a red and white sticker. Everywhere else is 1/4" luan.

I know what sticker you are talking about, I have seen pictures on-line. This camper doesn't have the sticker. I wrote to Jayco and received the wall diagram which shows that there is a 1/2" plywood in the wall for this purpose. When I actually do the measurements that 1/2" piece measures to be in the closet under where the TV should be mounted in the cubbie. I had spoken with Jayco on the phone while we reviewed that diagram and we ended up with "ask the dealer".

I spoke with the dealer and the tech said that the whole area where I wanted to mount the TV had the plywood and it shouldn't be an issue. Well.... that doesn't seem to be the case so it will be on to plan 2. Going to get a piece of oak plywood and stain it to match the cabinet. Then it'll get glued, screwed and reinforced into the opening. The plywood will be sufficient to hold the mounting bracket and the surface area of glue and screws will be enough to keep it to the wall.

It is a shame that the entire area doesn't have the backing board as it just makes sense to do this. I think that plan B will look just fine though.

From the way you are going to do do it, it seems like it will be a nice installation complimenting the cabinet. Nothing wrong with that.

Interesting post. By the sounds of it you got it under control but will add that if your trailer has a fiberglass exterior known as tough shell, I doubt they put the half inch board in the exterior wall. The walls are vacuum sealed between luan and the foam insulation. My trailer had the half inch board on an interior wall in our trailer.
