Wow! Good post. It makes me wonder what I'm buying across the board - food included. I bet we have people in this country that would be willing to manufacture quality tires for a decent wage.

I couldn't agree more, however I am concerned if we have enough consumers willing to pay the price that would be required to employe those American workers at a decent wage.
I know I would -- but the big box discount retailers are full of people shopping based almost exclusively on price. That doesn't support many American workers earning a good wage, let alone health benefits.

Several years ago my son was purchasing a very high end brand of cat food thinking he was being good to his rescue cat. He later found the food was contaminated by melamine that came from China. As the previous post said you just do not know anymore where products (or specific ingredients added) come from. Even "buying American" is no guarantee.

Problem is most people want it cheaper... and that is now what they get.. even reading this forum I think the most common asked question is "How much can I get the dealer to knock off the price?"

Legit point about buying cheap, but there is a difference when you are not willing to pay significantly more for exactly the same product, made in the same plant, by the same people. I am lucky, I live in a very small rural community where I've found service providers [auto repair, marine service, HVAC repair, etc] who provide incredible service for an incredible price. I now have a habit of over paying their invoice in an effort to show them I appreciate their work. Just had a repair on my heatpump requiring a new fan motor. One call and 2 hours later he was at my home installing a new motor. Final bill $125. I over paid the bill.
Buying junk at any price is a mistake. Buying from a local or big box merchant at an inflated price when I can make an on-line purchase and get the same product [exactly the same name brand product] at a significant savings. Easy returns and typically good followup on problems.
