Favorite Iowa/Northern Missouri/Southern Minnesota Campgrounds

We are located in Central Iowa, (right smack in the middle!) and am always looking for camping trips 3-4 hours away. What are some favorite campgrounds in Iowa, Southern Minnesota, or Northern Missouri?

Can't wait to get the Eagle out of storage end of March and am planning some trips! -- Thank you!

We have really enjoyed the COE Dam Complex campground at the Coralville Dam and liked Pikes Peak State Park, both in Iowa. Wyalusing State Park, in Wisconsin, across the Mississipi River from Pikes Peak is nice too.

We like Crowder State Park near Trenton Mo and it is also close to Jamesport which is known for it's Amish community

Try ledges state park near Boone. Campground is nice with good size sites. The park itself is like nothing in Iowa or the Midwest for that matter. Rocky outcroppings and a canyon you can drive through with several stream crossings. It is a favorite of ours.

Forestville / mystery Cave State park in southern Minnesota. The have a pretty neat cave tour. Nice hiking trails, a historic town which they have actors reenacting the 1800s , nice trout streams to fish. Great for kids all ages. My kids where 2 and 5 at the time i took them. Definitely will go back.also if you don't have younger kids they have a 4 hour cave tour which you have to crawl under and around the cave. If you really want to make it exciting watch the movie descent before you go.lol my wife and i just watched it don't think i can get her in a cave anytime in the near future. The mn dnr has a nice website check it out.
