First 2011 trip

Well I worked all day getting the trailer packed & cleaned. Spent 2 hours tricking the Dish receiver into working with the Winegard Carryout got the truck ready. Now if I could just find that darn water jug I would be ready to take off tomorrow! I just checked the Nebraska Parks website and it tells me our 4 favorite lake campgrounds are full! WTH, I thought only 50% were reservable and the rest are supposed to be walkups. Oh well we are taking off anyway!

We checked 5 different places and no sites. So it's back in the driveway, I guess I need to reserve next time.

Don't give up! I don't know if this will help, but try this directory for Nebraska...it lists all campdrounds public and private by city. There might be a jem waiting for you nearby to put up camp!

OH wow...I hate that...we are not reserve able down here in TN ....I hate it because we cant go nearby on busy and holiday weekends! We are supposed to get it by next summer, but you know how that goes...

Hopefully you will find a good place! Remember - it is the adventure!

Md SP`s are site specific reserve able. Va SP`s are park reserve able, a site is guaranteed in the park but first come first served on which site you get.

That is better than us - no sites reserveable! I hate that for Tennessee because MS, AK, KY, and I think MO all have some form of reservation. I would really like to enjoy my local parks more often, but I am just not going to risk packing everything up and heading out a few hours only to find a full campground. I have seen it several times when we have been able to get in on a Thursday...By Friday night it is full and there is a parade of unhappy folks doing the loop.....

Until then I will keep on visiting my neighboring state

Yeah it appears Tenn. needs to modernize. What I like about the MD website you can see a map of each loop and what is available and what is not for every SP for everyday of the camping season. There are also webpages to see the specifics on each individual site, including pictures! You can start reserving after Jan Ist.

Ya Crabman--Some of the St of NH cg's have that feature on there websites, they show which are reserved so you can then take your pick. I don't know how well it works but it's a start.

Our reservation systems in IL are straight up wierd- and sometimes disappointing.
IL state CG's accept reservations- but only 7 days in advance, you have to pay in advance, and, its a minimum 2 night stay. And there are no refunds on the reservation.
But, you can view most sites/loops and see what is already taken and whats still left.

Privately owned CG's have their own reservation/site rules and they vary from place to place. Most share the 2 night rule, but drive-ups can stay only one night if you wish.

The 'first come' rule is always a gamble- but saves a few bucks. And in our many years of camping in IL, we've never seen a full campground. (Admittedly, we do stay away from major holiday weekends for camping due to the crowding and noise- so we haven't experienced those in many years.)
