fishing

What do you all use as a boat or flotation device for fishing?

I am looking for something easy to carry in the 5th wheel so 2 of us can fish on lakes and not be stuck on shore.

Do not want to tow a boat behind the 5th.

We solved this problem with a 12 foot porta-bote. We always ended up fishing from shore, but then heard about this foldable rowboat. It mounts right to the side of the travel trailer. Some people with good clearance (like 5th wheels) mount it underneath. It is only 4 inches wide when folded, so doesn't exceed legal trailer width limit. (Underneath the TT that wouldn't be a problem)

We unfold it, put a 40 lb thrust trolling motor on it and away we go! It weighs about 70 lbs. I can handle it myself if I have to, but the DW helps and it goes easier. About 15 minutes to put it together and you're off!

Here's a photo of it opened. (this one is just a photo I grabbed off the internet, don't know who these guys are)

We use a Folding Cat by SeaEagel. It's an inflatable twin hull cat with 2 seats and will take either a small outboard or trolling motor. Easy to set up, takes me about 15 minutes by myself. The material for the pontoons are the same material the Coastguard have in their water rescue launches. I can set it up and move it to the water's edge by myself. It's stable and tough. It's not something you would use for deep water fishing in a large lake, but great for working the shore line and coves or trout streams. Works for us and doesn't take up a whole lot of storage space.

Not the cheapest, I think we have about $2500 in it total (cat and motor), but for us, it's the perfect answer for our needs.

We are also using a sit of top kayak.

Both Thule and Yakima make roof racks for your truck so that the kayak can coexist with the 5r, as long as you are reasonable in the yak length. Mine is 12', wouldn't want any longer.

Warning I have more into the rack than I do the kayak.

The kayak is a Ascend (Bass Pro Shop) fishing set up. Cost new ~$700.

Rack is from Thule; by the time I got the rack, cross bars and saddles it was $1000.

For me it's worth it, and the rack is very versatile and useful for other items too.

We utilize a canoe with a square transom and mount a minkota electric motor on it and run it with a deep cycle battery.
We carry the canoe on top of the truck with a rack I made for the bed.

I have the Ally 811 (16.5 ft) skin on frame pack canoe. It weighs around 45 pounds and packs into a large duffel.

It does take about 25 minutes to assemble and 10-15 minutes to disassemble. I found mine for around $1800.

Though a bit pricey, I feel it was well worth it for the ease of transporting a boat that can accommodate my whole family (2 adults and 3 kids).
