flea collar

Anyone heard of putting a flea color in the hot water heater compartment? Dealer said would work better than a screen.

I have heard that. The sales guy I dealt with was telling the same story. He is a full-timer so I put a bit of credibility to the opinion. Haven't tried it yet tho. We've looked for cheap collars but haven't found any, they tend to run $5+
Not sure that I buy into "better than a screen" tho but maybe in conjunction with.

okay, I'll nibble. A flea collar to do exactly what? I installed a Camco screen over our trailer's hot water heater vent specifically to keep dirt daubers from building nests inside the compartment. (Learned the hard way some years ago from dirt daubers nesting inside the upstairs furnace flue to do the same!)

Seems to me a screen will do this job perfectly year after year, when a flea collar has long lost its effectiveness. ...

Then again if you have issues with fleas in the hot water heater area, this makes perfect sense!

I have also heard that you can use cattle ear tags from a feed store.

I usually throw a couple of moth balls in the outside HWT compartment to ward off spiders from nesting in the gas burner tube. Our dealer suggested this.

I also have a gas burner tube brush to clean out spider webs in the gas burner tube should they occur. It's come in handy on several occasions.

Eight year old thread, but I'd be leery of using mothballs in either compartment. There are at least two formulations of mothballs that are flammable.

When we purchased the TT in 2000, that was what the dealer suggested to use in the bottom of the outside HWT compartment. years later, I purchased an outdoor patio gas griil and frequently had spiders getting into the venturi tubes. So, I purchased one of those venturi cleaning brushes and keep it in the storage compartment of my TT which makes it handy to use whether I’m camping or at home. I no longer use mothballs.
