Fuse blowing and No Clue Why

So we just set up in our 2016 Jayco 27BHS and all the lights work with the exception of the two above the sink and the awning light. Everything worked 2 weeks ago.

Today I found the GFI tripped which I reset. When I turn on the switch for the lights above the sink they dont come on, but no fuse blows. When I hit the awning light, bam the fuse instantly blows. I'm assuming there is an issue with the awning light which is somehow connected to the lights above the sink. Not sure where to start, I am under warranty but I have more trips coming up the next few weeks!

Hmm... Is the sink light switch a part of the light itself or is it mounted in the wall (or does it have both, like our bathroom lights, so all switches have to be on to make them work)? Sounds like there is deff something going on with the awning light. I wouldn't think that they are connected to each other.

Sounds like a short or bad ground at the awning light.

Sink light is in the panel with the other switches, but it has it's own switch.

Are your switches in the control panel on the upper kitchen cabinets by the door like our 2016 26BHS? Our has switches for the awning light, kitchen lights and main living area lights.

I would try pulling the cover off the control panel and see if something is touching in there that may have come in contact when driving - its a bit of a rat's nest in there and all spade connectors on the switches so entirely possible. Its a bit of a PIA to trouble-shoot the awning light because of the separate relay panel for the remote (behind a cover inside the upper cabinet).

When you say lights above the sink do you mean the two recessed into the wood on the ceiling or the under-cabinet light? And did they work before and this is a new thing?

Yes, I am talking about the recessed lights. Yes everything worked last time we parked it. Yes all the switches are in the control panel. Thanks for the suggestion, I will take a look at the panel. Just don't want to void any warranty if I screw something up. Is the panel hard to take off?

4 screws in the sides of the plastic front and 2 for the door catch and it comes off.

When you are in there check the crimp connectors on the back of the switches. Sometimes they aren't done right and the wire comes out. There's a chance that has happened and would explain why the lights don't work and then blows the fuse when the awning light is turned on.

Excellent thank you. Is it a big deal if I do it when power is on and fuse pulled?

No bid deal - its all 12VDC in there. Just be careful removing the cover - easy to do but there's a lot of wire in there and you wouldn't want to pull any connectors apart by being to aggressive.

Can I just pop the panel off the awning light by using a flat head screw driver underneath it? The only screws I see are on the awning and slide switches.

the screws are in the side of the plastic into the wood. I can see one in the photo to the right of the slide switch. There should be about 4 of them and the 2 screws for the door catch on the left side.

The covers around the light switches just pop off and you can remove the switches and their mount by removing a couple screws. The entire panel comes off with screws into the side. You also need to remove the screws in the door catch.

Thanks guys, I was able to remove each individual plate for the awning light and recessed lighting. All connections appeared connected properly and were not loose. Not sure what can now be the problem, guess I will have to drive in to the shop.[emoji35]

I have a 2016 27BHS. If you can unplug the wires from the awning light and then Turn the switch on. If the fuse blows then You have a wire issue in the trailer, if it doesn't blow you have proven it's the light.

Definitely a rats nest. So from what I can tell all connections are intact. The farthest switch on the bottom right is the awning light which pops the fuse. The one run in line with it is the litchen recessed lighting which also does not work, but does not blow the fuse. So I am assuming there is a short somewhere when the awning is powered on. I got up on the roof and looked at all the connections tonthe light and the appear normal. There is a box inside the cabinet behind the panel where I am assuming there are more connections. However it is stapled, and I don't want the claim that I caused the issue if I open it. Any other suggestions?

I also forgot to add that when my cellphone is pluggedin the charging port in the bedroom the radio in the trailer goes to complete static? Ground issue maybe?

Could be. When you unplugged the awning light what happened?
