I have the Champion 3100 Inverter generator and it will run the 13500 btu AC unit on my TT. They are $999 at Costco now and when I got mine almost 3 yrs ago when they first came out, it was $699. For the money, they can't be beat, they are lighter than the Honda 3000 so it is easier to load in my truck. I had the contractor grade Champion 3500 and it was way too noisy for camping, I sold it. I also have a Champion 2000 watt inverter generator that I use most of the time since my need is mostly to keep the battery topped up. I went to the Early RV show and was thinking of buying the 120 watt portable solar charging unit but after I was talked to the salesman, he told me that it needs direct sunlight to work effectively. Most of the sites that I camp at are shady so that pretty much nixed that idea.

At Costco that 3100 Champion normally sells for $799. It happens to be -$100 right now (California) @$699. I really want the remote start but for $300 more... I'm not so sure.

Get the inverter, it is quieter and only runs the engine based on the load, so also more fuel efficient. Get any brand you like, my suggestion is a honda. I use mine for a week at a time a couple times a year and it has never missed a beat.

Unfortunately, with the exchange rate makes it more expensive to buy products across the line. I do like the idea of the remote start, it sure would be nice.

One thing I have noticed with the Champion 3100W Inverter Generators is the ones sold in Canada require an adapter installed into the 30A plug in order to plug your trailer's power cord into.

The ones sold in the US have the correct plug hard wired into it so no adapter required. This is huge to me as a lost adapter would render the genny useless (30A wise anyways).

Despite the bad dollar right now I think I'll just get a US model anyways for this reason.

I have the two Yamahas as you can see in my signature. They are 44 lbs each so easy to move or load in your truck. Have a set of cables to connect them together in order to get full 30 amp service to my trailer.

Good to know - unfortunately the nearest US Costco is a 10 hr round trip for me! Thx for the info - maybe I'll pick up a 2nd adapter to have on standby.

Offspring22; Those adapters are at any RV store or you can make your own. Paint the thing yellow or bright orange and you will not loose them.

Just wanted to add to the discussion... I bought the Champion 3100w inverter non elec start at amazon on a flash sale for $670 a couple of months ago. Finally got up to about 75 deg here today and thought I'd try it out on my 15k a/c on my TT. I didn't try it in eco mode, but ran in regular mode for an hour with no problem! I am very happy with the generator as far as initial quality/noise level are concerned.

Yamaha EF2000is

I have 2 Yamaha EF2000IS 2000 watt generators. Hooked in parallel, they run my AC and microwave. (Combined output is 4000 watts).
The thing that made me choose Yamaha over Honda is the fact they have a fuel shut off valve (shuts off the fuel to the carborator) and fuel gauge. Hondas do not.
I top off the tanks before I go to bed and it is still running in the morning. Same dB rating at the Honda 2000 generators. Have had them 2 summers and they have been great for dry camping.
Had a Jayco 26BH and now have Jayco 28BHBE.

Has anyone bought the Generac IQ2000 yet? They seem to be $799 everywhere. I see they have a 30 amp parallel kit that they are quieter than the hondas and yammy's.

Looks like a nice unit. Can't find any sound level data, no fuel shut off, and the parallel cable box looks a little bulky.

Not sure what engine they are using or its EPA rating is either.

youtube had a video on it showing DB levels at a trade show next to a honda unit. Fuel shut off it says is on the side of the unit according to the website. Here is the hot sheet for it,http://gens.lccdn.com/generaccorpora...430_iq2000.pdf

EPA says 50 state

RAurand, I too have (2) Yamaha EF2000IS and I have not used them as of yet for RV'ing. IIRC, these Yamaha EF2000IS have about 1800 watt max as opposed to the 2000 specified. You also lose maybe 200-300 watts when you pair the two together and therefore, your actual running watts with them paired will be somewhere around 3300-3400 watts which should still be plenty for the 13.5K A/C and microwave making this pairing a bit better overall than the Champion 3100 but at a much higher overall price. If A/C is not needed, I think that's where the single Yama will shine as opposed to running the Champ 3100 if ya know whadda mean? ;-)

You are correct in that you do not get max power out of both units (2000 watts max stand alone). You only get 1800 watts max output each when in parallel (3600 watts). I could not find any specific data on continuous power when run in parallel so I have to assume it is 1600 watts each when used in parallel or 3200 watts combined. But, like you said, much better than a stand alone 3100 which is only 2800 watts continuous.

I just got back from a 5 day\4 night camping trip and I could not be happier with their operation, gas consumption, and ease of use. They fit in my pass through easily, only used 10 gallons of fuel the entire trip, easy to carry, super quiet, and easy to start. I had several people comment on how appreciative they were that they were so quiet. In addition to the 15K A/C, I was also able to run the water heater, microwave, GF's curling iron, and the fireplace. Now, not all at one time but it was nice to have the extra headroom without sending the generators into overload.

P.S. To properly start the Yamahas in parallel mode, you first need to ground both units first. Start the first generator and make sure you have the green AC lights on, plug in the second generator power prongs and then start it. Make sure you have the vents open on the gas caps. They are clearly marked.

I just saw this over the weekend and thought it was a great idea. Has about a 9 hour run time on each tank but I don't think it would be very portable for a RV.

http://www.amazon.com/Generac-6000-S...generac+lp3250

I use this one for my trailer and so far I haven't had any issues with it. If you use the 20% off coupon it's only $424

Trailer hitch

We have a Jayco 27rls doe's anybody know where I can get the trailer hitch that attaches to the frame of the rear of trailer. I want to use a cargo rack on back to carry our inverter. They say you should not attach anything to the 4" square bumper, not strong enough. Thanks
New champion runs great

Search for the Curt adjustable RV hitch and you should be able to order it online. Another option is to have the rear bumper reinforced by a welding shop and then use a bolt on hitch receiver.
