generator

I have a 1015 Jayco 27RLS.and I need to buy a generator.
Do I need an Inverter Generator or can I use a regular generator with a surge protector. Can I run the AC with a 2000 watt inverter?
Does anyone have A Champion 3000 watt inverter?and what do you think of it.
thanks Noahron

The Champion 3100/2800 watt Generator/invertor works perfectly and runs the A/C, but not the microwave at the same time. They are quiet and parts are easy to get when needed. Some like the Honda's are Yamaha's better because of a bigger wallet.
"I Luv My Champion" Generators are noisy and are not that neighborly.

That is the generator I bought! The electric start version.

I installed the oil, battery, and fuel and the generator fired right up at the first push of the remote start button!

It's running now for the break-in (first 5 hours) using a portable electric heater for a load (trailer isn't here just now). Very pleased.

(Note: I had to buy a gas can. The cans since 2009 are a Royal PIA to use! )

I bought two Honda EU2000 generators for my last fiver. Hooked together they ran the a/c and microwave with no problem. A little spendy? Perhaps, but very quiet and portable. When I wasn't going to need the a/c, one would handle the rest of the trailer nicely.

I'm a fan of Champion generators; however, a good friend just bought the 3100/2800 inverter gen and it's not that quiet (58 db). I have a Champion 3500 watt standard generator that I paid $350 for at O'reilly and they are similar in noise output.

I went with the Yamaha 2400. When I got it, there wasn't much else choice in quiet inverters other than that or Honda. It ran the 13.5k AC in the old trailer and we'll find out in a few weeks if it will run the 15k AC in the new one. Bought it for battery charging while boondocking, with the ability to run the AC in a pinch (like when it is 95 degrees at midnight in Iowa coming home from Yellowstone). I am impressed with its quietness.

I thought about buying a champion but decided on the Honda because of the noise level. I will use mine at music festivals and some state campgrounds that will have others close. I wanted to be considerate, I know how I like noise when I am trying to enjoy the great outdoors.

We have to thank California for these new pia gas cans. The old one per California let vapors escape. These new ones just spill gas all over the place.

The Champion "Generator/Inverter" are just as quiet as the Honda's or Yamaha's at 56/58 DCB. They are the "Kitten" group.

The Champion "Generator" is just as noisy as the Honda Generators etc. at 70/75 DCB. They are the "Barking Dog" group.

I would say either would work but the inverter makes clean non spiking power unlike the regular generator

Generator/Inverter gives cleaner power for electronics.

Thanks, but for $200 (or $100 more if I find it on sale), I'd rather get the great costco warranty!

Side question - How long do you need to run a generator to charge the battery? Say if you're down to 1/2 or 1/3?

Just hook up to your RV (120 Volt) let the RV onboard power converter do the charging. That way if you use your A/C it still get charged. I usual let it run for a couple hours at night and sometimes in the morning depends on how much power we use. Most campsites has certain hours you can use a generator; usual in the morning and in the early evening.
