I have the Champion 2000 watt inverter as well. Another 2000 watt Inverter generator to consider is the GeneracIQ. They did a noise test comparison with the Honda Eu2000 and the Generac was quieter. It's about $800 so middle of the road between the Champion and Honda. Had I not already bought the Champion, I would have gone this route. It has received great reviews and has some cool additional features the others don't have

What wattage would a person need to run a 50 amp trailer with 2 15,000BTU AC units. Looking at 2 Champion 3400 watt inverters and paralleling them.

Not looking to run everything like we would on shore power but at least the AC units.

Typically, the big boy diesel pushers have 12K - 15K generators on them. That would be to run pretty much everything tho. You could get by with 8K to run both A/C units as their starting wattages are around 3500W. They run much less than that, but if you have them trying to start at the same time, you're going to need 8000W.

Just read you're looking at 2 3400W units, you could probably get that to work as the AC units will likely not be kicking on at the same exact time.

I'm not an expert but I don't believe two 2000 watt Champions paralleled will give you the 50 amp service you need. You'd be able to power one of your AC units but not both. I would guess you'd probably need at least a 6000w generator to provide the type of power you're looking for. You'll want an inverter style for the quietness. Honda makes this one that would work for you. Off the chart expensive though

Looks like a nice product! I like the fuel gauge, load gauge, and run time left features! They really didn't specify what modes each generator was in when they did the sound test. If the Generac was in economy mode and the Honda wasn't that would be a problem. If they both were in the same economy or standard mode, then good for Generac!

We used a Honda 1000 for about seven years. Very light weight sips gasoline super quiet!

That 15000 needs 2900 watts to start it, we use two Honda 2000. Happy Trails

I used this as a rule of thumb. http://www.ramsond.com/wattage-chart/

If these new ones are just as good I'm all for the competition, maybe it will make Honda and Yamaha step up their game or lower their prices.

I saw a Harbor Freight one the other day in a parking lot sale. They were using one as a means to power stuff. It was just as quiet (at least to my ears-- which are not that great but good enough). If these Chinese companies are stepping up and putting out great stuff that lasts, and if parts are available, and they are offered for hundreds less-- hell yeah I support that! That's what drives innovation! It'll be interesting to see if they last and what kind of customer service is available. I'm thinking things will be good for that Champion though! If that price drops about a 100$ they will put a hurting on Honda.

Champion 2000 question.

Will it run your microwave or the wife's blow dryer? Specs indicate 1600W continuous. Seems a 1500W blow dryer would be too much (cause the generator is also powering a convertor and such).

Champion 3000 question.

Are they quiet enough and have little enough vibration to mount them in the front storate compartment of a fiver?

Yep, our 2400 Yamaha would run the 13k btu AC in previous trailer too. Just not enough for 15k AC and too big for just microwave and such.

I am debating the smaller 2000W genset and keep it in the back of the truck or a 3000/3500W genset and mount it in the front compartment.

This has been answered to some degree already but I'll expand a bit here. You want a generator to run a couple electric items in your camper.
* It might be beneficial for us to know what Year/Make/Model camper you're using.
* You could simply look at the sticker(s) on these items to see what kind of power they draw. Generally electric motors will draw upwards of 2x as much power to start and then run at a lower wattage afterward.
* There are different types of generators but the most popular are Inverter generators as they only run as fast as necessary to produce the power needed - thus lower decibels (noise) and happier neighbors.
* While most generators run off gasoline, there are some that use propane (or both - dual fuel) now. Note: Propane produces LESS power than gasoline.
* Peak watts vs. running watts - Generators will say 2,000W but the general rule is it's 2,000 PEAK watts (max) and more like 1750 running (usable) watts.
* When it comes to generators, you get what you pay for. Opt for the el-cheapo Chinese model and don't be surprised if it dies on you. If you want reliability, go with Honda or Yamaha. I understand that Champion and Briggs & Stratton are players now as well.

All that said, good luck on your generator hunt!

no it is not quiet enough to mount in front compartment and you don't want to do that anyway. too much heat and carbon monoxide! bad idea

It was with the understanding the front compartment and genny would be modified with a 'firebox' and extended exhaust.
