Generator at altitude

My generator shut off shortly before arriving in Estes Park and won't seem to restart. It's new with about 100 hrs, fresh oil change, and oil level is correct.

It shows code 36. Altitude is listed as a possible culprit. We are at rough 7500 feet currently. Has anyone else had issues when taking your rig to altitude?

How much gas do you have in the rig? The pickup in the gas tank should be set to shut off the genset at around a quarter tank. They're adjusted such that you can't run the rig outta gas with the genset.

Greater than 1/2. I rarely let it go below 1/2 because we always run the gen while driving and I don't want to go below the 1/4 tank cutoff.

It's a fuel / air mixture issue.

About 40% less O2 at that altitude

If you get it started, you can expect it to run hard, and produce about 30% less output at 7500 ft.

Living in Colorado, I changed the carb jets to high Altitude jets because there was no adjustment for " mix"

Enjoy Estes and the Rocky Mountains in silence.....

At home now and took the cover off the Onan 5500 and there is an altitude adjustment that is labelled 0, midpoint, and 5000. It is set at the midpoint currently. I wish I had known and would have tried the 5000 (max) setting while at altitude to report back. I pretty much had gen problems the whole way home despite the lower altitudes with multiple fault codes thrown. Almost something new each time I tried to start it. It had difficulties starting and staying running. Now back at home at 1200 feet, I will see if it runs properly again.
