Getting ready for first trip

Okay, other than camping in the driveway, we will be heading out in a day for our first trip in the new WhiteHawk. 4 days in a GA state park. In preparation, I did three mods. First mod was a screen door latch that Peggy wanted and loves. Second mod was installing a TurboMax fan. I did not disconnect the original vent fan. Third mod was adding a diamondplate tool box on the trailer tongue with an on/off switch and terminal box for the battery. I have included some pictures of the mods. Now for the trip!

I'm really liking the front tool box - I may have to look into that. Looks like it'd hold the battery, and a lot of the smaller hook up tools and such very efficienctly. Where did you find the tool box?

I picked the tool box up in Lowes. It is suppose to be mounted in the bed of your pickup on the side "Kobalt 48-in Silver Aluminum Truck Tool Box". I bought the on off switch and the terminal board in West Marine.

I really like the tool box mod.. I would like it for storing our hitch.. which weighs about 100 pounds and is currently stored in one of our storage areas... the problem is that it is so heavy that I can't move it to get anything that is behind it.. I am going to check Lowes..

How did you mount it? Did you use U bolts, or drill into your frame?

Ranger, no I didn't drill into the frame. I used 6"x3/8 lag bolts with a big washer in the box. I did drill thru the angle Iron that the battery originally sat in. I put a piece of rubber between the box and the frame. see photos

Great mod ideas. If I can fit the toolbox, that is a must. How did you set-up the screen door latch? I actually thought of removing the handle all together and going back to magnets like my parents TT had.

Sorry for the long delay in answering. No internet or phone where we were!! Actually, we bought the latch in Camping World for under $6.00. Easy directions, drill one hole.

Nice work Rick. like that wiring job. I did the door latch as well. One of my favorite mods is the bar for the screen door. A popular mod on the forums is putting Lexan in the screen door. You can keep the door open and have the AC or heat on. Our trailer is dark with the door closed so this was something I was working on today.

Thanks, The lexan mod sounds good. On our Last camper we had (SunnyBrook) I used a clear Mylar type film for the door very light weight and I was able to velcro it on the door, easy on and easy off. When removed, it was rolled up and stored away, taking up little space.
