guage for propane tank

Just emptied our first tank after installing the propane gauge. It worked pretty well, tank was empty within one hour of gauge reading empty. Screws directly onto propane tank connection , available at walmart, about 8 bucks.......happy camping!!!

Cool, I got mine at Sam's after finding them at camping world for triple the price, can't wait to see how it works out. It didn't work on my gas grill, I hope to have better luck with the trailer hookups.

I had trouble with mine (bought at Walmart) and took it off. It would intermittently stop gas flow or not flow at all even if full.

Works well on my gas grill and my popup.
Hoping it works the same on my TT, same size tanks.
I only have one tank, so I'll need to know when to replenish.

These gauges work on pressure. Since the pressure in a propane tank is almost constant until the end, these gauges are not really accurate until you are close to empty (as you pointed out). The temperature affects the pressure more than the actual propane level.

There are other methods to determine the tank level; 1) Measuring by weight, which is not practical when the tank is mounted on the TT, or 2) a heat sensitive magnetic strip that attaches to the tank. It lets you know the level of liquid in the tank by heating the strip with hot water. The tank is "cooler" where the liquid is located (or, more accurately, the tank absorbs more heat where the liquid is located).

Luckily, we have 2 tanks on our X17Z so it is not too much of a concern.

I used a similar in-line gauge as mentioned, but found it to be pretty unreliable as I needed to know a ways ahead of time. I took it off as it really was not useful for us. I use the hot water method to get a better idea of the amount of propane left in the tank.

When the propane is being used, pour hot water down the side of the tank. The tank will be warm until you find the propane level. Then the tank is cold. Works very well.
