HD Portable Radio

Not sure if this is the best forum for this question, but mods please move if necessary.

I am looking for a portable boom box style HD radio to use at the camper outdoors. We are rarely inside so the stereo inside doesn't add much value. I use a Sony boombox now that is very poor sound quality. I think they are starting to make boomboxes that have HD radio capability. I am not concerned with it having an IPod dock, i rarely use one.

I know boomboxes are becoming less and less popular but there are still a few being manufactured. Does anyone know of a good one, with good sound quality that is still highly portable?

Thanks.

After reading some info, I'm feeling old. Read today that in 10 years, there will be no more GPS, DVD, CD, gamebox or digital cameras. Maybe the boom box will be history too!

I know this is going to sound a little unusual, but I'd suggest looking at a radio from either Milwaukee or DeWalt. They sound good and they're durable enough to endure the punishment from construction workers that use them on job sites. Take a look at these:

FPM III has got a great point. I'm in the trades and wheather there's power or none those are great choices and very durable. Sony makes a boombox called a Bazooka, 2 subwoofer on either end,CD, radio, best sound around.

How about installing a couple of outside speakers on your trailer, There are some great sounding high quality weather proof speakers on the market.

Best sounding portable radio I ever heard... It is expensive however. I also ordered the carring case. Runs from D-cell batteries or 120VAC

thanks everyone for your replies, but this weekend I walked into a Brookstone and lo and behold found the perfect solution!

http://www.brookstone.com/indoor-out...L1_Electronics

This thing sounds amazing. And it has a soft blue light for a bit of ambient lighting. Handle for ease of carrying. I can plug my current boombox into this, or my tv, or even my phone MP3 player, and it instantly transforms their sound into something of very much higher quality. It is perfect. And I love that it is so portable with the handle you can take it anywhere.

This is on my list to Santa! LOL

I have not been able to find another one that is a boombox style with HD.

Not sure where you got your info about losing presets.
The presets are maintained by a standard replaceable lithium cell when the unit is unplugged. Without the small coin-size battery, the presets would be lost.

Link to manual (See page 8)

Good luck in your search.

I got the info from some customer reviews. A few buyers who said they would have liked the unit if that were not the case. The only thing I can think of is they have very recently changed it as two reviewers specifically mentioned losing the presets when unplugging being an issue. Even if they will stay if you keep batteries in is not a good option for me either as I would store in my camper, and would worry about battery corrosion and not really keen on taking them out and back in every trip.

Here is a link to the review page where I saw two users mention the preset issue. If an internal lithium battery would prevent this, can't imagine why they are mentioning it? Unless perhaps this is a new addition to the unit based on customer return feedback.

Maybe the lithium battery is not included and they never put one in. Not sure.

Thanks for your reply!
