Is there a way to connect an external hot water hose to the trailer? I don't have much hot water, using the electric hot water hot water.

You could attach it to your trailer water connection on the outside of your trailer and turn on your cold water tap to get hot water. I don't know if there is a negative side to this aside from not having cold water from your cold water tap. You could always pump cold water from your fresh water holding tank. Would that work for you?

There are a few instant water heaters on the market. They can be installed in the existing hole and tied into the existing plumbing or installed in the storage compartment and plumbed into the hot water system.

What kind of setup are you thinking about? Are you at a permanent site? The instant heaters are obviously the best choice, but there is no reason why you could not plumb in an external water heater if you were good working with Pex.

You do realize it is only a 6 gallon tank in the RV... HOWEVER ..make sure your water heater is not set to "bypass" more than a few have made that mistake.

Hot water

Thanks to all for the input. I am VERY new at this. Our 29bhs is sitting beside my house during a remodel. I tried using the electric water heater but the water is only tepid warm. I can't find any thermostat. I am now trying using the gas wh. How long can I leave the switch turned on? Do I have to shut the whole thing down at night?

Using the gas to heat the water is just like the electric, no need to turn switch on and off. It will cycle and heat the water when it needs to. In my experience, using the gas will heat it and recover much quicker than the electric.

As was mentioned by Seann45, it sure sounds like your winterizing by-pass valve is open or partially open. It is the one that is in the vertical piping at the water heater.

If you run gas and elec it makes the equivalent of a 10 gal water heater and you can leave both on all the time. Definitely check the by-pass valve first.

1x on what Sean says. Make sure the heater is not set to bypass or "partial bypass". Search for heater bypass to see some examples. We get enough hot water for a couple of showers back-to-back with no probs. The bypass is normally right next to the heater. 3 valves are involved, one on the heater inlet and one on the outlet and the 3rd on the bypass which connects the inlet and outlet lines. Make sure the inlet & outlet valves are OPEN and the bypass valve is CLOSED. Lots of folks have found the bypass valve partially open allowing cold water to be mixed with the hot as it exits the heater. Symptoms are what you are reporting.
Is your TT new or used?

I had the same problem on the first trip with our gently used 23B. Checked the valves and found the bypass open. Closed it and you could make coffee from the tap water!!

I too forget about this one bypass valve. I got down here to Yuma, set up my unit and de-winterized, set up my water heater on electric and in the morning had my first shower and found the water only warm and forgot about the by-pass valve. A couple of days later I remembered this valve and now I also could boil eggs from how hot the water is. I have done this several times since I bought this unit and I guess my excuse is ........... well......... I forgot what I was going to say.Mr.T
