How do you get your Pilot/Flying J discount?

We are Good Sam members because we purchased you know where, but on a recent trip I was told at a Pilot the $.03 gas discount was for diesel only. We didn't have our membership junk handy so we didn't argue and gassed up and moved on. The next stop was Flying J where the pump instructed to insert rewards card, I inserted the Member card and nothing happened. What do I need to do to get the alleged discount, or is it a false promise?

Take your card into a Flying J or Pilot desk and have them call it in and have it verified. This has to be done only once. It is good for gas or diesel.

I get the $0.05/gal discount, which involves applying for one of their RV Plus cards. It is not a credit card, but it works similar. You swipe and pay at the pump with a PIN, and at the end of the billing cycle, the full balance is automatically deducted from your checking account. There is no interest charges, but you must pay it in full each billing cycle (sort of like the old AmEx days).

www.rvpluscard.com

Oh, and if you apply for it, be sure to use the promo code '1080324' so I can get a $5 credit on my next bill.

I guess I get the $.05 off because I am a GS Deluxe member. Here are the discounts:

I have used ours at a Flying J only once since obtaining it. Swiping it at the RV island pump did not work. I went inside and the cashier activated the pump using the discounted price. And this was for gas, not diesel fuel.

At the pilot here you run your card then it asks for reward card and swipe it and it then gives the discount and has worked fine.

Thanks all, I should have asked question before heading out. Is the rewards card the same as the membership card? I'm definitely guilty of being one of those people that makes mistakes first and asks questions later. One of the biggest reasons I love the forum, saved me from lots of that!

I have never found fuel reasonable at Flying J or Pilot. Even with the discount card.

Fuel prices are usually higher at Pilot and Flying J because they have a captive market. The big rigs can't go anywhere else for fuel. We use it only when we are traveling with our fifth wheeler. If unhooked, there is always less expensive fuel close by. Even with the Good Sam's Discount, I can still find less expensive fuel.

GasBuddy

For finding the cheapest fuel in the area, the free GasBuddy app works well. I use it on an iPad but other platforms are also supported.

Same here, I just pull off an exit that has 3-5 stations competing and find the price to be more than fair. Driving around To save just an extra .03 for 25 gallons is a waist of my time when I've got camping to do.

I have the advantage of living just a couple miles from one. At times, they are more expensive, and other times they are cheaper. As mentioned above, I use the Gas Buddy app to see where to fill up.

I live in Wv but there is a Flying J 12 miles away in Va. Gas there is always at least 40 cents a gallon cheaper than here. I have seen diesel 80 cents a gallon cheaper. I have a 100 gallon tank on my diesel F350 so I can say Flying J has been good to me and then there is that extra 3 cents off.

You know I didn't even pay attention to the price vs others, automatically assumed they were competitive but the reason we pumped and moved on was because as someone said "We had camping to do" After the first two attempts, with no discount we just went for the lowest price, like a Love's. Situation was complicated by pretty descent drop in price last week and most states around Georgia have lower gas taxes so we can count on 15-20 cents less in Alabama or S. Carolina. Appreciate all the input.

I have the GS/FlyingJ CHARGE card ..not credit card as it has to be paid off every month.... FlyingJ used to be the cheapest fuel out there but now it is not. I use it in the states as it is a real pain to use a Canadian Master Card at the pumps..

No you have to use the Pilot/Flying J rewards card at the pump first and put in your assigned pin number and the pumps reset to the discounted price. It even works at the RV islands that I have used, though we usually just go where the cars go as our trailer is small.

After we swipe our credit card, the pump prompts us to swipe our rewards card... thats when we swipe the Good Sam membership Card. We get 3 cents off on gas, and 5 cents off on propane.

How do you enter a Canadian Zip Code at the pump? I have always wanted to know. Thanks.
